Yeah, i kind of thought the same things when i saw that video. I was like "man, I'm too old for that kind of party! Shit has changed."

Haha, I was doing a radio studio thing in a Red Bull pilot project in Amsterdam about 2 years ago (called the Rooms of Red Bull which is going worldwide this year I think). A lot of the artists that came round were really pushing dubstep and I couldn't take any of it to be honest. Skrillex is the first one I actually like.

I've always though this was one of the greatest pieces of music ever created, in any genre across all time. It's also hard to find many people who don't appreciate it, which speaks volumes in itself.

Wow, hearing a lot of different things here, from "flat" "no dimension" ASOT / Anjuna style overcompressed crap to minimal electro type grooves in "not so good" mix quality.

I would have assumed a lot more high quality productions, engineering wise, but most seem to prever bombastic over quality.

Which in itself is interesting and explains the current music culture. I would probably settle more toward Brian Eno, or in EDM Wippenberg, or Jorn van Duynhoven.

In my view one of the worst things to happen to EDM, trance in particular in the last 5 or more years is the focus on production rather than composition.
You have tracks from the late 90s and early 00s which engineering wise aren't fantastic but they hold a compositional magic that the vast majority of modern releases lack. The older I get, the less I give a crap about how "tight", "clear" and "punchy" a track sounds and the more I focus on how the track makes me feel.

Posted by Raphie on Jan-13-2011 10:12:

true, but trance also evolved in it's style, and i personally think that 90's producties have a loth more depth than the most recent productions (loudness war)

maybe after 30 years I'll get close to produce a track like this

If we're talking about Man With No Name, "Floor Essence" is where it's at, IMO:

i just have this weird sense when i know things arent superficial, basically if i hear a song and i realize damn this artist put their entire passion and all into it, and i go to that place where the artist was while writing that particular track, thats when i love it..basically a song that doesnt try to hard...

it can something as simple as this..

or..

So true, but don't do it in the UK, I'll be 7000 miles away in LA! (where I now live).

Tubular bells init?

/jk. Great track actually - I don't think it's aged that well, along with 95% of TD's stuff but still a classic none the less.

Good god man! Have you no compassion. I can't be raving at work. I'll end up having to fire myself.

Absolute belter for sure.

@eric - fuck it, you should have just outed him about the female facade thing right there

This to me is when trance (or epic house? - shit, better not start that one again) was just superb.....

EDIT: Bugger can't find a video for either of them.

Lovelight, and In Spirit (Jayne)

You know what i'm talking about

And I've got to give props to Pryda for this one too......

See I think it has but to each their own. Here's an updated version that sampled it

Probably Sasha's Xpander for pure artistry, or Schiller - Das Glockenspiel (Humate Remix) for the awesome drive, fx, mood, et all.

What's with the lack of ladies in that skrillex show?

back on topic:

My most favorite song in the world. ever. I have to say this is the most underrated song ever, and the best part is that it's FREE. I <3 CC. Too bad most netlabels out there don't put out this type of quality.

And FSP has just discovered why dubstep is actually gay...ding ding.

Cuz bitches can't dance to it of course...You can hop up and down, or sway around like a retard...but it's hardly danceable, and bitches love dancing.

How to dance to dubstep:

Lots more girls at most of the dubstep gigs I've been to than the trance ones I used to go to...

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jan-15-2011 07:29:

even 11 years later, still sounds like it could be made today. Brilliant and timeless. Even the lead is still current.

Really?

The only one I saw any females at was one dj'd by DJ Emily. Rest was guys + girlfriends and no singles.

The chicks liked the club music in the Denver scene. Hopefully it's different here in Texas.

Also can't believe nobody's linked any Benny Benassi. I <3 him for helping make those fatty synths popular. Nothin' like "feeling" a low-octave 16T saw run through your pants.

Yeaaaaah. Tits + Dance = Perfection.

Besides, it's not like there is much of a scene in Texas, except for maybe Austin.

Pretty big rave/dance/dubstep scene in houston from what I've already experienced. Dubstep will probably be my on excuse to buy a sub.

And no I'm not into sausage fests...unless it involves alot of beer and everyone is speaking german.

I'm listening to di.fm, where I've listened for at least 5-6 years if not longer and I'm hearing trance with clipping and other artifacts. Which is fun for my production. I don't fix mistakes now because it's cool to have mistakes.

Jaytech has that in his sound, like mistakes on purpose. I love that shit. Or I heard Armin Van Buren on a state of trance play this tom panned right, barely audible in a precise EQ zone with reverb. That crap is awesome.

I concur with wuss trance, if it isn't driving and doesn't have moderate sections; it's pussy gay trance. Sorry I'm an American; we have balls here.
