I doubt that, since you already have issues with buying milk for seb...dont need to lie.
If I had to steal milk to feed him and risk 10 days in jail, I'd do that too...
When are you gonna come see him anyway???

Im actually staying over a friends house at Absolute tomorrow night but Im trying to entice Ryan and Amanda to come over to Toronto and stay the weekend over at my old condo which is across the highway from your house. We should try to plan something within the month, since I can offer them a bed to sleep the weekend in Mississauga.

Yeah, I'm not saying I support the US system of funding schools... in truth I think it's way messed up and part of the reason why there is such an entrenched class system / systemic poverty in the US. Nevertheless, the law is the law and she broke it, which is why she went to jail... I can't tolerate people saying shit like "she was sent to prison because she wanted a better life for her kids," BULLSHIT... she was sent to prison because she broke the law, her motivation is irrelavant.

A colleague was just telling me about a funny court case in the U.S.
A girl was texting on her cell phone in the mall and not paying attention to where she was going. She tripped over a small railing that was surrounding a fountain in the mall. It wasn't very deep, so she was able to jump out quickly. But she's now suing the mall and security guard company b/c they didn't help her fast enough and b/c they laughed.
well that's not at all what the lawsuit is related to but why try and distinguish yourself from your ignorant southern cousins, lol?
the news isn't defined by "what my colleague said", FYI.

Did I say that's what the news said? No. I was merely just passing on information that my co-worker said that I thought was funny. I figured people here would have heard more about the story, and indeed they did, and flushed out what the details were. Posted by VDub on Jan-28-2011 15:50:

I completely agree.
Its sad that we have ideas such as "all children have a right to the best education" when in fact, that is far from the truth.
I wish there was a better way, but being realistic, money runs shit and the poor dont have any!
So, Unless we start stealing food for that cooking class, we will continue to have a kitchen full of bad ass kids rapping and banging pans as drums on the kitchen counters....Posted by Moral Hazard on Jan-28-2011 17:07:

The problem isn't a lack of money; rather, a lack of understanding that all boats rise with the tide. Americans with money want to see their education taxes spent on their own kid... I get that; everyone wants what's best for their kids; however, what people need to understand is that the little that their kids would need to sacrafice would create tremendous new opportunities for other kids; which creates increased opportunites for all. The law of deminishing return works for schools too.

I get what you are saying, and I truly wish it were the case! (I cnat even tell you how much, as this is a topic very near and dear to my heart).
I was merely being realistic about the situations in schools like mine (the worst of the worst).
I dont even work for the state, I work for a HUGE non-profit, run by rich philanthropists who want to help out....The agency's major function is to send out therapists and clinicians, (under *their* pay, not the states) to work at the worst schools who cant afford people like myself, and are in dire need of social services to these bad ass kids. If my school cant afford teachers (and we have over 50% substitutes with no formal education and miniscule pay), how can they afford MY salary? Answer is: they cant! So where does the money come from?
Its sad to say, but if non-profits didnt collaborate with schools like mine, I question how the schools would even exist. The only reason my school has anything at ALL is because of this non-profit. I can appreciate the work this agency puts in to help out, but until we fix the major problem as a whole, poor schools will continue to suffer, and the cycle of non-success will continue.
