They do and Waves Mac is as expensive as Waves PC.

I agree with it being personal, But i do what i do for me, opportunity will always be there, I just don't want it.

I currently pirate software because I'm 17 and it's pretty much impossible for me to be able to afford plugins when I only have a part time job and I make like $250 every 2 weeks, half of which goes to my phone bill...

That said, now I know which plugins I like, and I have every intention to buy them when I make enough cash.

I do buy all my music though, every song in my library is purchased of either iTunes or Beatport unless I made it.

do you really need those plugins? what sequencer are u using? also theres many great free vsts.

then you got all you need

I used cracked software when I was 17-22. Unfortunately I had so many cracked stuff with viruses and malware, that it eventually crashed my system and I quite producing for a while.

Now I'm back, with steady income buying everything I use and it has caused me no headaches.

And probably the other half to partying and impressing girls. (you being 17 'm just guessing) but think of this less phone & booze,m ore plugins? would that work? maybe it's not impossible, just priority because limited means that u can only spend once

I did the same thing when i was your age Sean, it started with buying the DAW and my choice was to spend my budget on hardware, since that couldn't be downloaded, but just like J.L. mentioned, when you get older and get more means it becomes easier to spend money on software.

if your 17 and broke dont waste the money on software, live life man! you shouldnt even be hanging on the computer. play elguitar instead!

I buy everything I use, with the exceptions for freeware, free samples, and the occasional free giveaway I've received. Besides all the holier-than-thou argument for buying everything, I think that you maximize your potential by using just what is available to you, instead of getting whatever you want, which could lead to (as someone said above me) relying on new and different plugins to make yourself sound better.

True, it helps focus as well, you give up less easily and get more out of your investment

Posted by J.L. on Mar-06-2011 20:45:

Seriously people. You can go so far with a VST like Synth 1.

I wish I had that much fun! The rest of my money gets spent on groceries, gym passes, music, lunches and clothes =\

I consider producing part of living my life. I love producing, I literally enjoy EVERY aspect of it, and I also love performing. But I mean, it doesn't consume everything I do haha.

Also; i hope I'm not sounding like some giant pirate who has 300 synthesizers and no idea how to use 90% of them.

I have like 4 softsynths outside of the included Logic ones, I use Massive, Sylenth, FM8 and Absynth, then just a few plugins like the Oxford suite and PSP.

But like I said, I have no problem paying for software, I just cannot afford it. I will buy software (Including software I already have) when I have the money.

youre 17 and have a legal version of logic, thats alot better than me. when i was 17 i had rebirth. or did i? im not sure i even had a PC at that time when i think of it, it might have been later. what the hell did i do when i was 17? i think i was selling 96% liquor to kids and claimed dept, stole cars and drove while drunk, beating up people and got into alot of trouble. piracy is pretty ok in comparison imo lol.

Still my favourite after so many years .

I bought FL because of the lifetime free updates (how can you not feel like you're getting your moneys worth?) and also own about 80% of the samples I have. Just not VEC which I oddly wound up using the most.

As far as piracy goes I don't care nor do I have much of a moral dilemna about it. I remember vividly the first time I went to buy a VST (after buying FL) and looked at the price and thought "wait, this almost costs just as much as FL does itself". And for w/e reason that turned me off a lot towards buying vsts. I was shocked at the time. These are tools, not the house I keep the tools in, and so I felt justified stealing them.
Afterall, if the developers didn't want me to steal them, they'd just use common sense and drop their fuckn prices right? Thats my main issue, not the whole paying money thing, but the amounts some of these companies actually charge. It has a lot more to do with greed than the actual value of their time imo. And for cheaper synths like vangard, I had absolutely no issue spending what I thought was actually worth it.

And another reason of course is why spend that money on fake sounding software... when I can just steal it, and save my money to buy nonfake sounding hardware? Like "hmm, should I buy z3ta, zebra, blue and albino this week... or just 1 andromeda?" The answer for me will always be the andromeda lol.
