Sure, but I don't think it should be doled out by any government or authoritative organization.

shaw's point is that murder is already illegal in most every country... what the hell else can be done about it from a judiciary standpoint? Start creating more laws that prohibit people from being Internationally offended? Or from offending others?

In fact, I am rather balked that a man from England is arguing with me over the internet. I'm going to go kill some innocent people because of how balked I am. Expect INTERPOL at your door any moment, you filthy instigator!

You're completely failing to recognize the responsibility of the murderers.

I see your logic, and I agree that Pastor Jones is a shit-eater who shouldn't be allowed any publicity whatsoever, but his entire point is that Islam breeds violence... and so in indignant objection to this, a group of Islamic men storm a UN Compound and murder 7 people. WHAT?

Men should be held accountable for their actions. Pastor Jones burned a book and said some harsh words, but that is the extent of his pathetic part in this. To blatantly ignore that the murderers are responsible for pulling their triggers is to completely undermine their accountability as human beings in society, and frankly, borders on an insult to the potential of the third world to pull itself out of squalor despite its admitted fetters by first world occupation. It's as though you're saying the shooters could not possibly be held reponsible - after all, they're just stupid Tribals.

Noone is saying they are without blame. Fucking shoot them in the head. They are clearly very violent, and has no place in society. But Reverend Lovejoy over there is not without blame either, and should be penalized in the same way as the murderers.

Spokespersons for Islam have repeatedly warned about burning the Qu'ran, and what the repercussions might be like. He still went ahead and burned the book.

He is responsible for the protests, and deserves punishment fitting to the damages he is responsible for. Both the material damages and to the Islam/Western relations.

His gripes are with the religion, though. Not their ethnic group, which just so happens to be largely inextricable, but still incidental. You really want it to be illegal to criticize a religion? Especially when its members act out precisely what you accused them of in reaction to your accusations?

Do you actually speak English? Genuine question, because you are completely mis-interpreting me.

The ONLY point I was making is that he knew what would happen if he burnt the book, he was warned, he did it anyway, and people died as an indirect result of his actions. And I for one would not like to see this happen again (would you?). Thats it. Thats my point. Nothing else.

You can read into it what you want, but there really is nothing more to my comment.

Do you read things before you post them?

And for the record, i'm not in the least bit religious. I don't care what people worship or believe as long as they don't inflict it upon other people. Extremists in any form (religious or atheist) are just worthless in my opinion.

Damnit. Fixed.

I only read things after I post them. I write them in a fugue state and then I come to my senses and look them over.

I'm surprised at you. I thought you of all ppl would have taken the book side. After all it was put on trial without a proper defense. It should have been at least been allowed an appeal before sentenced to death. Some librarian you are.

I am not misinterpreting you, I am merely cutting off your point at the head, like the keen scimitar of Sharia law!

There is scarcely anything you can do to avoid insulting butthurt Islam extremists. In fact, my calling them butthurt will probably ire some of them into letting their camels rape them (for a change), just to prove me wrong.

???

What you would like to see happen in the world and what actions you can take to ensure it are, coincidentally, worlds apart. The best thing that you can do is to hold those who committ such gross atrocities absolutely responsible for their actions, no matter if some shithouse Pastor from Florida was the one who lit the match, so to speak. Burning a book is not an illegal act in the United States. Should it be? Would that truly deter the indignance these people lash out at others for?

Posted by srussell0018 on Apr-02-2011 20:01:

Murdering a bunch of people because you were offended is a justifiable offense as long as the offender who offended you was sufficiently offensive.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Apr-02-2011 20:03:

Burning my favourite book is sufficiently offensive. Death to civilians!

This reminds me of the time I blew up that Catholic church after they openly criticized The Da Vinci Code

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Apr-02-2011 20:13:

Those bastards! You warned them, too. You warned them that if their innocuous yet unorthodox criticism came to execution, you'd do some execution of your own! But they didn't listen, and now the blood is on their hands! Ullaulalualuaualuaulaulualulaulaulaulaulaulualua.

Im curious to know how a flooded stinkhole half way across the world heard about some hick burning a book before Americans heard about it.
