From a musician's standpoint it just doesn't look practical in any respect, even though it looks like a technical marvel.
To me it sounds really ordinary and old school. Seems like those analog fanboys just love to hear that same old subtractive/modular synth sound in a new shinier, prettier box with MORE BUTTONS! ANALOG POLYPHONY ALWAYS GETS ME HARD!

| Originally posted by cryophonik Naw, there are plenty of people here who can appreciate quality work without getting caught up in something as simplistic and meaningless as analog-vs-digital or hardware-vs-software debates. And there are plenty of people on gearslutz who wouldn't recognize analog if it bit them on the ass. Why some of you guys can't think beyond that is pretty puzzling and I don't think age is, or should be, an excuse. The mere fact that some people can only come up with a poor attempt at condescension by referring to someone who admires a quality hardware synthesizer as "analog fanboys" shows a tremendous amount of ignorance. Most intelligent people can appreciate the time, effort, intellect, attention to detail, etc. that goes into creating an instrument like the Schmidt synth. To boil it down to analog fanboyism shows a total lack of ability to think beyond the tired old analog-digital debate or otherwise form any sort of coherent logic. |
It looks pretty incredible. It's more the sheer joy of messing with knobs and sliders that gets me, rather then the sound. It's like how most people can't tell a sampled guitar from a real one, but the real one is much more rewarding to play.
Anyways, getting sidetracked. This is probably going to be a mostly collector's item. Well, until Jean Michel Jarre gets his hands of power on them.

Don't like. I only get excited about products that might actually make it to mass production. If he builds 10 in his garden shed, it won't ever have an impact or help anyone other than rich collectors IMO.
Yeah, all you guys here who are surgeons or anesthesiologists pulling in a few hundred thousand a year can buy and enjoy, I guess.

I think its sexy but I don't understand how the good mood lasts once you imagine all the other things you can buy for the same price... that imo would be much much better and capable at inducing wood.
