Very subtle promotion..Impressive

I remember back in the day when I used to be accused of "ruining the integrity of TA" by promoting Boa. lol - I think we've reached a point where it has become part of the norm, and as long as it's not incredibly obvious or abusive it should be okay.
I personally think his videos are quality, and if there is a thread that is relevant to the subject (ie club, DJ, etc) he should have the right to post without being shat on.

so every time someone mentions a venue that ive shot at or djs that ive taken pics of, i should post a link to my pics? the reason why i say it looks like a desperate attempt at self-promo is because this isnt the first time he's done this. ive seen him do this every time he sees an opportunity to show someone a video. if i did that (or all other photographers did that) then it looks pretty lame.
the first couple times i was like "cool" and thought nothing of it but it is ongoing.

chinamon you seem to be playing the innocent one here but I seem to remember flooding the forum and starting shit with your pictures back in the day with no affiliation with a club at all.
Maybe he should do that with all the videos he takes each weekend? Would that not be the same shamless promotion you use to do?
I just can't help but pick up on a slight tone of jealousy here....could just be me...

back then i took pics for TA... not for the club.. thats why i still posted my pics here.
jealousy? lol no. i really dont care where he takes pics, who he takes pics of or who he works for.
as for the videos he takes at whichever venues he films at, he already does post them on TA after each event. i dont say anything about those. its the constant re-posting that bugs me.

I'll second this. The videos themselves are really well done and I love seeing them, but really no need to post one every single time someone mentions a venue or dj you've shot. We get it, you take videos. Cool. If everyone did this TA would be a clusterfuck. Look at kotsy for example, he could literally post a relevant video in every single thread, but he doesn't. No disrespect or anything, feel free to post whatever you want, just my 2 cents.

shall we get in to your lies to club management and dj agents/management when you kept trying to get media access when you have absolutely no credentials?

No lies whatsoever. That one time with my radio station tag... a stupid oversight on my part. BTW, you could have came up to me and said it could have been misunderstood as media, and I would have thrown it out. Instead you decided like a five year old to go to the club about it to get me kicked out... whether that was your intention or not. You had the power to easily inform me of my mistake, but instead you chose not to. Later on I heard that you bragged about how you almost got me kicked out to some of the staff at Guv. Pretty sad on your part.
And for the record, I never ever told/suggested that I was media or affiliated with anyone. EVER.
Just in case your not keeping track, I've check all the re-posts for the past three months. I wanted to know how bad I was unnecessarily hammering TA with my the videos.

So if you were to average it out, that would be once every two weeks. Holy shit that's outta control!

the media pass thing was an oversight? i had someone approach me in koolhaus saying that you went up to them saying "omg i cant believe the bouncers are letting me on stage to video because of my media pass" or something along those lines. dont remember the exact thing because it was so long ago. as for security throwing you out, that was not my call. that was a decision made by someone else. all i did was make the club aware of the situation since they are my employer so i did the right thing. what they decided to do is out of my hands.
no lies? i dont know what you said to certain staff at guv for them to think that you worked for the club. ive had quite a few people ask me if the bald guy with the video camera worked for guv because they said you talked to them like you worked there or something like that.
also, when the club denied you access numerous times for media access you decided to go behind their back and talk to dj management/agent.
as for your video reposting, those dates were all the opportunities that you've had since the beginning of the year so you're on a 100% record right now. you seized every opportunity.

Putting aside the murky and cut-throat world of clubbing photography that you pair inhabit, just like the original poster, I have never been to Basement before, and benefited from getting a feel for the place from the video, so I couldn't give two shits if the guy who made the video derived some promotional benefit. It would be a totally different story if no-one felt that the video in any way helped to enlighten them about the club.

That is strange since they asked me to leave the club at the beginning of the night. I couldn't have been there no more than half an hour in the main room at most when that happened. What's funny is that I had two of those tags but forgot one at home. My buddy and I argued in the parking lot about who was going to wear it, since both of us wanted to show off the radio station at the time. It was a split decision to not bother and just leave it in the car. Like I said, it was a stupid mistake to wear it at all and getting crucified for the wrong reasons too.

I don't know where you got that because I've never told anyone that I worked for anyone. As a matter of fact I even have disclaimers in several places stating...
"GrooveENERGY enjoys immortalizing club events in the Toronto area via HD video. It must pointed out that we are not, in any way, form, or fashion, associated with any club establishment. We video these events for the love of the music, it's entertainers and patrons. GrooveENERGY also would like to thank the individual artists for their contributions to these videos."
I've been asked several times if I was either media or worked for a club. I've answered the same every single time. No... it's only my hobby.

Incorrect again. For one, I don't bother asking anyone at Guv as the five to six times in three years I've tried no one ever bothered to return my emails. I always approach the local agent for permission. It's funny but even before when I just started videoing with my old camera, I offered on three occasions to reprogram Guv's forum to rid it of the porn spam attacks they were being hammered with. I said I'd do it without charge as I wanted to contribute since I enjoyed the club so much. Then too they NEVER replied once. Instead they later locked it to future posts essentially shutting it down. I just can't figure them out is the main point.

The two times I've been there, and maybe it was due to the events, people only showed up at very late times. In my second video I almost left at 2am since it was so dead. Then all of a sudden ppl started showing up and next thing you know, the club was getting rammed. Turned out to be a good night of tunes, but it seems (at that time) that the club was catering to an after hours type crowd. I'm not sure how they are these days.

I don't think your video posts are out of control. You have a passion for capturing memorable club moments and others seem to enjoy your work (including myself).
Chinaman. If you want to be fair and constructive about this, maybe a stickied event video thread should be set up? Like the one for the event pics. That way there would be no need for anyone to post their vids elsewhere. That would also mean that no photographers would be allowed to post their pics for events anywhere else other than the designated photo thread, ie, a photographer can't start a new thread for their own photos of a certain night. Just a thought to help you guys settle this out, rather than argue with one another.
