I tend to go for the more simplistic look for my tracks.

@Final Call - Do you do your own photography? Nice stuff.
I like the minimalist approach as well.
Well, I hate to toot my own horn, but I'm going to go right ahead and toot it, I certainly do do this and I like to think I'm decent at it
I do like a more minimalist approach to my stuff, but I know that with album art and such a certain degree of cheese is necessary for it to be memorable. My favourite out of the bunch is probably between Lifeline and Insecurity.

Damn, Final Call and Seandroid - nice work!

I haven't created any images in a while, but when I do I use Paint Shop Pro 8. Paint Shop Pro is way more user friendly than Photo Shop. Here's a few images I made.

Yeah they are simple, and the yellow was an odd choice for the ZL productions. Shreds of Black Cloud is my black metal project. That was a simple one to do, I found a cloud and sky photo with google images, then used the fonts I loaded into PSP. I use PSP so little, I forget how to do anything with it. Takes me 30 minutes just to relearn how to use it. I would not dare try to create album art. I always have concepts, a picture in my head, but I can only draw stick figures. Beyond simple fonts and colors, I'm no good at all. I don't have an artist's eye. I don't even trust myself enough to slap text on some deviantart.com stuff.
I noticed that some well known labels don't use artists anymore. They use the label logo and add your artist name and title. It's up to you to make your own cover art. I think cover art is very important, it helps convey a concept, and makes a release unique and stand out. Pretty much just marketing 101, images, words.

The fonts that I used for Aliciya and my name are our "official" trademark fonts (i.e., the ones that we use for our websites, logos, etc.). So, I wanted to stay consistent with that and have a font for the song title that set it apart. |

@ Seandroid and Cryo
actually no i don't. my buddy producer/friend of mine does most of the work. i guess he pretty much searches online for various "themes" and toss them into PS. not bad for what they are.

I sometimes do artwork for my mixes, e.g.:

(except the odd radio show guest mix I haven't done one since then!)
but don't usually do it for my productions. The label will take care of that if I get them signed.

My PS skills suck so I always have to have someone else make anything I want. That is one skill I really wish I had. Just to be able to make a cool logo or piece of artwork for a release would be awesome.
I always loved the album cover to Tranceport, so simple.
Then again I am a Tranceport fanatic.
