do i really strike you as a person that would attend trance events?

Posted by Zak McKracken on May-12-2011 21:05:

booking lieb together with above and beyond sais alot about the arrangers imo lol. thats like booking guetta and speedy j to the same party, clearly only guetta fans will show up and then be disappointed of jochens act because they dont have a clue. speedy j fans will stay away because of guetta. same at the party u talk about, clearly only above and beyond fans would show up, and thinking yeah ive heard about lieb, its trance so its gonna be like a&b. yeah right.

Posted by trancedanne on May-12-2011 21:06:

I would rather see AVB then Lieb, such a worthless DJ. However his trance productions are quality.

booking lieb to a house event would be the same experience. when i come to think about i understand why his music doesnt work in a club lol. its not really "good time" music. the people at tresor looked to have fun though on a vid i saw from a gig there. pure minimal techno and nothing else.

Posted by Zyklon_Jay on May-12-2011 21:08:

you should have a blog.

Posted by Zak McKracken on May-12-2011 21:13:

maybe i already do.

Posted by AY STAR on May-12-2011 21:17:

even if lieb does play minimal/techno
i will still go just to support and give him respect
guy did alot for the scene back in the day

It's really come to this? Taking a hatchet to Oliver Lieb?

how is talking about personal experience taking a hatchet to him? remove the cock from your mouth, he ain't reading this.

oliver lieb = tupac of electronica

he has an enormous catalogue with classics and ok tracks.

yeah and train of thought 1.1 is my favorite.

Posted by Syntonic on May-13-2011 05:11:

Does anyone have any Lieb sets? Never heard any DJ or live acts from him except and essential mix.

Yeah his music is suited more for those seedy underground concrete wall clubs, little to no lighting so your concentration is on the music. But people today want 'fun' music.

I have his 1997 06 20 - Innertrance

Upping if you want it. But I'm going to school nao, so there will be some wait time..

Posted by Syntonic on May-13-2011 05:28:

Thanks Vernon Wanderer that would be really cool to hear. Do you know of a good place to find more older Lieb sets?

Can't say I do, really..

If I find them, I will post them either here or in this thread:

This is the kind of fanboy apoplexy I just don't buy into. It's not as though I don't like Lieb - I bought A Day On Our Planet just a couple of weeks back, and I'm going to see him DJ at the end of the month.

But when I was getting into trance, Oliver Lieb was producing mediocre tracks like Subraumstimulation and his remixes of shit like Flight 643, Far From Over and Starry Eyed Surprise. For a long time that was my impression of him - a middling techy-trance producer.

Thanks a lot Vernon Wanderer. Can't wait to listen to this, I've never heard anything live by him.

Also Subraumstimulation I never got into. As far as Far From Over, its decent but nothing exceptional. Lot of mediocre tracks but better than 90% of the shit being put of at the time.

But his remix of Dreamstate just sucks me in especially with the vocal snippet but that breakdown kills the rest of the track. I'm thinking of making a longer edit with little to no breakdown.

How is your personal impression of Lieb any more correct/accurate than anyone else's? And where's the apoplexy?

There's a barrage of classic fanboy retorts in this thread: You're just jealous, haters just don't get it, his music is too deep for shallow punters just looking for fun, etc.

My opinion is clearly just that, but it's clearly more balanced than a lot of people's. I trust Jay's opinion enough to have my reservations about seeing Lieb play, but I like his work enough to pay to go anyway and make up my own mind.

Probably Netherworld, although for pure PLURPROG raveyness the Jules Verne CUT really tickles my fancy.

Yeah. Obviously I love the original, especially for those electro interludey bits, but the best bit about the Jules Verne mix is when that huge ascending riff comes in about two minutes into the track. When it's mixed in well that riff is the ultimate "HOLY SHIT IT'S NETHERWORLD I LOVE THIS FUCKING TRACK" moment that does ridiculous damage on a dancefloor.

Posted by nefardec on May-15-2011 17:43:

ok this is reminding me how much i love some trance.
