In terms of a record deal he is right. But he doesnt put on shows out of the 15%. The promoters pay for that inclusive of his show fee.
Out of a show fee a lot of stuff gets shaved off as well. Booking agents, record labels if he is in a 360 deal. If its an all in deal then the flights and some rigging come out of that as well.
So by no means is he getting all that money or even the majority of it, But hes far from poor.

When all is said and done, whether he's making x or y, at the end of the day being deadmau5 is a pretty sweet gig. Not to say his life is perfect or his job is easy, but there are less interesting/fun/glamourous things out there to be doing. My pity factor for him is very low even if those numbers are true.
i dare say he's not even a dj anymore, he's a brand. a prepackaged one at that. full out now.

the record label tends to get 10 to 20 % of performance fees now. Look up what a 360 deal is. Everyone has to sign one now because record labels dont make money anymore on account of everyone ripping off their music.
So anyone who doesnt think that stealing music hurts artists "because they can always tour" should read up on 360 deals and reevaluate their position (amongst other things)
The booking agent takes 15 points. The manager takes 15 points. Again if its an all in fee then you do have to pay expenses out of the fee.
So $100,000 turns into 30,000 real fast.
Im not saying i feel sorry for someone making 30G. but you cant say that they make the full pop by any means.
But think about what this means for most artists and what they actually make after expenses. It's not much!
Stealing music is really hurting the business, especially for the more underground guys. Why do you think everyone has to go pop these days? its the only way u can literally butter your bread anymore!
some of the comments in here are amazing 
99% of them have no clue what they're talking about. so many variables pending on the artists deals but there is piles of money in this industry, ranging from merch to live to sync to publishing! just my two cents. that other thread with the psychopath is super entertaining by the way, did someone call the cops on him yet? definitely he should be reported! hope you guys are all well
