Once we found this goofy green haired candy raver kid that we new from our school and devised a little trick using him.

We made a fake profile, which at that time actually wasnt that easy because you needed verified .edu email addresses, which was like a cookie cutter sorostitute named 'sara beth peterson'. We created her entire life history, we enrolled her for classes. We gave her an alma mater and contacted former would-be classmates and they claimed to have remembered Sara. We populated the profile with a collection of photos we found from some girl on flickr. We received literally hundreds of messages and pokes from creepy men, including some from people we knew, which were super embarassing.

Anyway logged in as this girl, we made a group called "I love to shop!" Back then, you used to be able to search for people on facebook by interest and many other topics, so we were able to artificially construct a search query that found all of the single women at my school who were active students and had shopping listed as an interest. Also, back then you had to invite people to your group 1 by 1 after searching for them. So we combined that search with the 'shopping' search, which resulted in a list of girls, and then I wrote a little javascript which automatically invited all 400 or so of them.

Within about 2 days the group membership was nearly 400. Then we changed the name to 'I slept with Mark _____!', which was the name of the aforementioned kid. Back then you were able to do shady things like that.

It took a good while before anyone noticed. This was back in 2005 I believe.

Suffice to say, it's still around today.
