this is insane!

Its like playing mega man, super mario and black manta all over again! LOL

Posted by yonny on Jun-04-2011 17:16:

whats the tune at 39 mins???

Posted by ziptnf on Jun-04-2011 17:26:

39 minutes is exileFaker - Ockham's Chainsaw, then the one after that is the IAYD track where it starts getting really heavy and bitcrushed. I'd like to think that's a boss battle

Posted by yonny on Jun-07-2011 18:08:

Ive listened to this a couple of times by now, and imho its a great effort youve made putting this together. its original and fun(although some sections of the mix are a bit tiring). From the Jay Z tune it turns totally insane!!

Posted by KilldaDJ on Jun-07-2011 19:18:

listened to this a while back - what is this mixing man? lol

track selection awesome, i was not familiar with some of the tracks on there, good shout on anamaguchi whoever suggested that...their power supply album/EP was top notch, fast turtle and helix nebula are awesome tunes on that

trash80 is cool man

the mixing could of been better my pal but hey its a fun compilation, i have a few mixes lined up and i've been out of touch recently so they are going to suck LOL need moar practice.

will have to make an 8bit chiptune mix also to rival your mix.

a challenger appears.

Posted by ziptnf on Jun-07-2011 20:09:

Thanks for listening. Yeah, the mixing isn't my favorite, but the speeds were all way different and fairly impossible to mix. I usually only grab tracks that I really like, then worry about mixing later. In cases like this, with a lot of amateur tracks in a wide-open interpretation in this genre, flawless mixing is pretty unlikely. I didn't really stick to a certain speed or style, and my mixing suffers from that.

I'll be waiting for your challenger mix. I'd be happy to do battle

Fantastic... I sent you a PM but also, I'll put out right here, anyone know of any other sets like this one by other DJs that they enjoy? Or only individual songs?

Check out this guy for sure:
DJ Cutman

He kills it. Excellent mixer with great flow and fun tunes.

You can also find music here:
Chipmusic
Keygen Jukebox
Reddit

There are random ones on youtube too, I'm sure you'd just have to click around first

Posted by Mr Game+Watch on Jun-15-2011 21:29:

I'm gonna be seeing DJ Cutman spin at Otakon in Baltimore this summer... really looking forward to it, my friend is a massive chiptunes fan and loved him (I also sent that friend your mix and he really dug it).

Posted by pozz on Jun-15-2011 21:46:

I was expecting more of an older vibe when i listened to this mix, so it didn't go over that well with me. much of the 8bit genre uses overdriven kicks and big synths and that sound ruins it for me even when the melodies are nicely composed -- i'm much more into the producers that tone it down.

now for the comments on selection and mixing: felt pretty good, mixtape-style. the end

Posted by ziptnf on Jun-16-2011 23:28:

Thanks Luke and pozz. Yeah, it's a bit futuristic and wild, but I meant for it to be that way. Sorry it didn't sit too well. I would have hoped that you enjoyed the Jay-Z track at least

I liked this, it was a lot of fun

Posted by montana on Jun-22-2011 17:37:

COMPUTOR RAEP

Posted by jupiterone on Jun-24-2011 05:09:

fuck yea! i don't know how i missed this. downloading now

I really enjoy this mix; it's a great blend of melody, madness and nostalgia, and it's excellent for terrorising my colleagues in the lab at work. Muchos gracias senor!

Actually, I enjoy a lot of your mixes because they challenge my tastes and it's too easy to get sucked into the same old familiar genres. A fun thing to do is play Synthetic Science straight after this mix, because the opening tunes of that mix carry on the 8-bit vibe, and it's also an excellent set

ive been wanting to catch one of your sets for while.. as you seem to know what your on about, sadly tho, i just dont think id ever listen to a psy set when it came down to it.
but this sounds mega interesting... downloading now... listening tomorrow

Hey, great! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and that your coworkers are getting annoyed by the constant video game noise coming from your speakers

Post in my threads when you check out a mix so I know I have listeners

I appreciate you checking it out, Jaii. Out of curiosity what makes you not want to check out one of my psy sets? I give every genre a try, even if it's not my favorite. I spun a Hardstyle set this February FFS If you want something more middle ground with progressive vibes, check out some of my slower mixes like Dynamic Reflex or Aggressive Impulse. Or, if you want some heavy hitters, listen to Power Trip or Radioactive Sound. I put a lot of effort into my mixes to make sure they sound good, don't be afraid of something outside your comfort zone!

its not that its outside my comfort zone.. through the years ive been into most things including psy-trance. its just that trance-like i tend to lose interest in these days. plus also i dont have much time on the old computer these days, so when im online i tend to go with what i know... or atleast diversify in a style more to my own tastes

Posted by [N]ûk|êû[Z] on Jun-25-2011 11:50:

just finishd listening to this,.. and to be honest, i fair enjoyed it. there were one or 2 moments were i started to get a bit bored, but i guess that must have just been the tracks i didnt like at that time.
i hung on for a few more minutes, then a completely different track comes on so i lasted the whole hour.

obviously mixing wasnt groundbreaking in places, but like you said, mixing so diverse tracks and tempos, its gonna be hard work, so all is forgiven.

that jay-z track is nice. but in all honesty i prefer the more industrial tracks at 10 mins, and 45mins.

but all in all, yeah i liked this mix, and i shall be keeping it on the system for possible future listenings, as i found it quite unintrusive for a saturday morning with a hangover

good job

Posted by ziptnf on Jun-25-2011 13:59:

Oh man, you listened to this while nursing a hangover? I wouldn't have enjoyed this at all, I'd be feeling too shitty. This set is good while driving or something else when your head doesn't hurt from too much alcohol

Thanks for listening, and if you ever feel like testing the psy waters again, just click on my set archive
