Looks like Bitcoin enthusiasts have already started preparing for the crackdown...
quote:
BitDrop is a decentralised, package delivery service that's paid for with bitcoin. It works by having runners that are near each other passing the package along until it reaches it's destination, with each runner taking a cut of the overall payment.

Nomico.in is to be the implementation of the anonymous exchange that I've written about before. However we need to wait for CryptoCloud to be up and running before starting this.

CryptoCloud is to be a cloud based computing platform (ala. Amazon AWS) that is hidden in cypherspace (inside the darknets I2P or Tor) so that their location cannot become known. This will allow anyone to easily start any kind of project that if it were illegal in whatever jurisdiction, will be able to run with impunity on CryptoCloud. So services such as Torrent sites, copies of the original Napster, and even directly selling copyrighted materials will be allowed(actually the policy as it stands is that pretty much anything will be allowed).

We're building CryptoCloud because we see a need for most of our services we're working on to be available no matter what any authority says or does, so instead of doing it one by one we're going to build a platform that everyone else will be able to use, and pay for with bitcoin.

...The most obvious reason is for money, I(we) think that these project's will be able to make us a nice profit by providing needed services in the bitcoin economy.

There are other deeper reasons.

Defense, we suspect that within the next 6 months many if not most bitcoin exchangers (especially MT.Gox, but also non exchanging services such as glbse.com) will be shutdown by various authorities around the world.

This will cause a liquidity problem for us (never mind our prime service being out of operation) and nearly every other business that uses bitcoin (this includes our suppliers). It would also kill the overall buying power that has grown with bitcoin over the last 6 months or more. This will seriously hurt our ability to operate and our bottom line.

To prevent this happening we hope to have the nomico.in (and CryptoCloud for it to run on) up and running before this eventuality.

Bitdrop is a mix of defense and cool factor. There is a need for a bitcoin paid delivery service, especially of goods that are.... less likely to pass through the current postal system unobstructed.

It seems that the real world is more and more starting to resemble cyberpunk dreams from decades ago, lol. Major corporations attacked by anonymous groups of hackers, people buying drugs and guns with digital currency through encrypted networks...

oh, the courier is private as well? nice, someone post when they are accepting new people. This sounds a lot better than dealing with locals.

I really can't see how the government intends to stop this sort of thing once it gets going, although I don't know a whole lot about the whole situation.

Posted by Lews on Jun-05-2011 23:10:

Eventually I feel the government is going to have to just legalize all drugs.

And, honestly, the government has much bigger concerns in the realm of cyberspace than people buying weed/acid/etc off the internet. People buying guns and bombs or hacking into government databases and banks are much more worrisome.

Yeah, that's the kind of thing that's worrisome.

Of course you have all these "anarchist libertarians" thinking how cool they are that they've gotten away with this and that they're sticking it to the man and all that bullshit, and then some angry kid will buy a gun and go shoot up a school.

This shit's just irresponsible.

What? That shit happens already. Do you honestly think this is worse?? People have been doing this for decades.

Did I say that? No. I said it's irresponsible.

the second they begin selling serious things like explosives it will be shut down. If we know about the site, its too popular for its own good.

On a side note, I went with a friend to a gun show because he had an extra ticket. It was scary how many of the people there were college aged kids in school hoodies looking pissed at the world. for some reason I was expecting a bunch of hunters in camo.

I hate running students through the code orange drill because it reminds me of how fucked up society has become in that regard. (Alright kids hide away from the door because one of your schoolmates wants to shoot you all dead because his parents and society hasn't taught him to deal with anger in an acceptable fashion)

Looks like it would be fun to use, but a hand-to-hand still seems easier.

Posted by LAdazeNYnights on Oct-13-2011 04:58:

of course..some stuff is harder to find tho

I take what I said back. I'm on the site now and it looks pretty easy to navigate and use. I'll give you my feedback in a few weeks

Site works. The process of getting the TOR setup was easy. Accessing the site and shopping was easy too.

The only thing I could complain about so far is the currency/bitcoin exchange process. It's a bit tedious. There's a lot of phishing sites too that you have to beware of.

I killed a couple hours researching this whole underground market last night. Drugs aside, it's quite interesting and pretty cool to explain to people who have no clue what the hell you're talking about.

For that to happen, I think they have to prove that you have ordered the goods. If not, it would be faaar to easy to set up your enemies. I highly doubt the cops would put in the kind resources they'd need just to catch a couple of nerds buying dimebags.

It's all anonymous.

The cops would have to see you receive the package, open it and "use" whatever contents were inside of it.

If anything they're after the sellers.

It wouldn't be hard for me to get a package and act like I don't have a clue who sent it to me and why. Some of these sellers have their own private couriers, as well.

Thanks for rephrasing what I just said

The private couriers sound awesome, though I highly doubt they'd deliver in Norway :P
