I would pay scientists for inventing a machine that extracts and records dreams. Then I would categorize these dreams by origin(like prisoners, animals, psychos, average people) and by genre.

And personally, as a massive sports fan, I'd probably set up an academy coaching kids and people who've never had the chance to play a particular sport and so would be so unbelieveably bad that they'd benefit greatly, so ice-hockey for Kenyans, Rugby for Americans and Cricket for Australians.

And also buy my local football club.

BTW, woudnt a spiritual succesor to Elite be the X series? I loved each of those games, and was very sad when they said the would stop making them, and started doing carwhels out of joy when they said they will start making them again!

never liked x. too cold and stale, and was way too much 4X as opposed to a cool space sim. never liked the engine that ran like a dog either. am hopeful for rebirth, but i suspect it will end up being more of the same. i want a game that focuses solely on the flying gameplay, not the factories and eco etc.

i loved smuggling drugs or weapons in elite first encounters

What i would do to make it exciting is set up a trade route trough a, lets say less than safe area, then run escort for my cargo ships...plenty of badguys to shoot then

Few things as exciting as being attacked by what appears to be an overwhelming enemy force, a couple of fighters in support of a couple of freighters, then when things seem the most dire, your battleship comes out of fucking nowhere and unleashes destruction as never seen before upon the fools that ared to attack you


Though according to an interview with David Braben himself at this years GDC, Elite 4 is in the works!

i dont wanna piss on your party but braben has been talking about elite 4 for fucking ages. this speech is also at least a year old from memory. if he started it today we're still like 4 years away. and there is no evidence they've begun yet.

id also seriously improve the flight model. dumb it down in fact. dog fighting in elite was really tedious. id make it more like tie fighter, though with a tachyon-like strafe.

id also make it PC exclusive which braben could never do.

fuck, not enough (any) space sims. oh, don't buy star raiders off steam. fuck me, worst $10 ever.

Yeah i know, apparently its been in development since 98, but then again a couple of weeks ago Duke Nukem Forever came out, and who thought that will happen, so all hope is not lost!


Well they did try to incorporate some laws of physics in their game, which is a laugh, since even on todays machines you rarely get a good physics engine, much less back then, so of course its going to be tedious

But yeah, putting it on a console would be an instant fail, but at the same time, i dont know if the pc market is big enough to cover the development cots and even make a profit So its a choice, put it on a console and target a large audience and make the game dumber, or target the nieche pc market and pray to all the gods in the multivers that you dont suffer a devastating loss
