oh... that's not really a shady area. i mean it's a very black area, if that's what you mean. and the criminal court is very close.. it's downtown brooklyn.

but that's walking distance to cobble hill, boerum hill, brooklyn heights, and fort greene, all of which are super nice areas.

shady would be parts of bedstuy, flatbush, east new york, parts of the bronx, parts of queens

i think staying in downtown brooklyn is a great location for people - easy access to lower manhattan, easy access to williamsburg (though you have to take the g), easy access to park slope and prospect park, bushwick is just a b38 bus ride away (if you are that kind of hipstour), and like i said, walking distance to some of the nicest parts of brooklyn.

If I was going on my own I'd be happy to meet up with TAs, but I really don't think the girl I'm going with wants to fly 3,000 miles to listen to discussions about beatmatching and black music history.

Posted by shaw on Aug-03-2011 01:18:

Well, what good is she?

Posted by enydo on Aug-03-2011 01:38:

I heard Twilo is a really cool club, you should go check that out.

and yeah, it's been stated, but Times Square is boring as piss. IT'S GOT LIGHTS AND SHIT THOUGH.

probably the closest thing worth visiting in the times square vicinity is chicken and rice 10 blocks north of times square

Or, 5th ave., a little further. I haven't made a Bergdorf-free trip yet. <3

i passed it a couple of times, but there was always a long line of chics waiting to get in, so i just ignored it and walked past it.

I don't know why you're pluralising cocks, if I'm hate-fucking Avana.

Posted by nefardec on Aug-03-2011 03:32:

ok, just so everyone knows, i didn't bring 'it' up this time.

also just let it be known i'm only an insufferable ****ish wanker when i'm on this site. it's important for me to let all that out here so that I can still have friends in real life

Posted by enydo on Aug-03-2011 03:33:

Gurl, slow your roll.

Check it out. It's pretty awesome (the total separation from women's departments definitely helps).

Too bad they're dropping Varvatos this fall. #whitewhine #ladaze

This place is really great.

http://www.starhotelny.com

I have stayed there personally and know two others who have as well. Its kinda half way between a hotel and hostel with really friendly staff ect. Location is sweet as well...right near Penn station.

Posted by nefardec on Aug-03-2011 14:53:

i can't believe i forgot about this:

http://nylofthostel.com/

this is like the ultimate euro hipster social hotel/hostel experience. it's located in morgantown, which is like part of east williamsburg and the top of bushwick. this is one of the fastest gentrifying areas in brooklyn. lots of europeans stay here. it's right on the l train, so it takes about 15-20 min to get into manhattan. you can get a private room.
