"Whats left to be said about the brilliant Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. "VQ" 3L DOHC V-6? Its won a Wards 10 Best Engines award every year since its launch in 1995. And in winning yet again this year, the 3L VQ becomes the only engine to be a seven-time winner. Every year since we inaugurated the 10 Best Engines competition in 1995, the 3L VQ has won a place.

See, I was right!

ok fine it has won a "WARDS AWARD"...whatever that is....i never even heard of Wards before...but i guess anyone can give awards nowadays...that prooved nothing....an Award by Wards?...LOL....post soemthing from a somewhat reputable place..lol

well u can buy a Kia and not have to worry for $9,000..LOL...most cars nowadays are worry free,,,,this is the age of fuel injection and navigation...lol...cars dont have as much trouble...unless its electrical...which is the leading fault in new cars...not mechanics

first of all maxima is a jap car, and second i know many cars under $25,000 that will not get blown away by a maxima. take like a integra type R. RSX type S. maximas 0-60 are 7.9 auto, 7.0 manual. whats so crazy about that and woooah 222 hp, a tank has 3000 hp, it must travel at light speed!

There have been FOUR maximas in my family, and I am driving an Infinity now.

no wonder you so biased

OK..fine you won't listen to talk about awards. I have a 98 Maxima. Same engine that the new 3.5L is based on. I AM TELLING YOU that this engine is simply amazing. the torque, the fuel economy, the maintainance-free. Who ever designed the VQ series engines at Nissan recieves MY approval for sure!! No Other Jap company has an engine in this class that will beat Nissan. THe 3.2L thats in the TL is better than my 98, but nissans new 3.5L will destroy that. They got 255horses out of that for the Maxima, and over 280Horsepower out of it for teh new Nissan 350z sports car. Honda isn't doing anything special lately, believe me. Seems like Honda designs engines for specs on paper. For example, look at the S2000. Honda claims "first to design Most Horsepower per Liter". ok thats wonderful. They get 240hp out a 2.0 engine. Bravo, yet the thing has like 160lb/ft of torque. Absolute garbage. You have to rev up to redline and dump the clutch on that car to make it go anywhere. Don't get me wrong, I almost bought a honda. I was very interested in a 98 Acura Integra GS-R. I drove it for a couple of days. The VTEC had me impressed at first, but I realized that to have any fun in that car, i had the tach constantly above 4500rpm. Wut's the point in that? I'm soo happy I chose the Maxima instead.

Ya i saw the coupe coming out of the g35 and dat shieeeeet is sooooooooooooooooo nice. but how much is it gona be going for u got ne idea? 32's? or more. but shit its really nice, hopefully its not running too much, and it comes out within a few months. cuz its definetly nicer then the 4 door, the 4 door is way too fukin big. either the a4 or 2door g35 seems just bout right, the Lexus i just realized is totally out of range, i see one every 5 minutes on the street nowadays, its too played out, i'd settle for the a4 1.8t or the g35 coupe.

Well, what do you consider a reputable place? Just because you have not heard of Wards Auto does not make them a place that "just gives away awards?"

Audi.. plus i'd not go for the fully loaded stuff.. I mean, you don't need 90% of the stuff!

automatic windows/ sunroof, yeah, but what else do you -really- need? auto-cupholders? or what?!?!!?

It does, you just havent seen It really needs the HP to overcome all the heavy metal mass and artillery i guess, nothing special. Regular tanks are already pushing it at 90kmph lol.

for your information i was giving the example that even though it may have alot of HP dont mean its fast. power:weight ratio.

and no it cant travel at light speeds, light speed is not 90 kmph. we never even invented a vehicle that travels at light speed.

NOTHING beats a Subaru Impreza WRX-STI

Engine Type dohc 16-valve turbo flat-4
Powertrain Layout front engine/awd
Displacement, cc 1994
Horsepower@rpm 276@6400
Torque lb-ft@rpm 275@4000
Curb Weight, lb 3086
0-60 mph, sec 4.6
0-100 mph, sec 12.5
Top Speed, mph 152

Automobile Magazine - "Automobile of the Year"

The competition was strongparticularly BMW's awesome new M3, Ford's surprising SVT Focus, and Acura's sweet RSX Type-S, not to mention the Jaguar X-type, the Ford Thunderbird, the dramatically improved Nissan Altima, and the new Toyota Camry.

Edmunds.com - "Editors' Most Wanted (Sports Sedan under $30,000)"

To the delight of Gran Turismo game-playing freaks nationwide, Subaru has finally decided to import the hot WRX to America for 2002, and we've become enamored enough with it to grant it our vote as the sport sedan under $30,000 that we'd most likely buy for ourselves.

Car and Driver - "10 Best"

Driving magic can be as hard to define as pornography, but like the man said, "I know it when I see it," and the new Subaru Impreza WRX blinds us with it. Thanks to its turbocharged flat-four engine putting down 227 horsepower (STI 280), the WRX possesses the boundless energy of a second grader stuffed with chocolate cookies.

s2000 absolute garbage? hello....its a 2.0 liter N/A engine! how much torque do you expect out of 2.0 liter engines? 160lb/ft is really good for that displacement. find me another 2.0 liter N/A engine with higher numbers. there probably aren't many out there, if any.

honda's sports car is known to have shitty low-end power but their vtec and high-end power makes up for that.

Compare apples to apples. Comparing a V6 3.5L to a 2.0L 4 cylinder? Pulease! Of course the 3.5 has more torque.

s2000 i believe makes more horsepower per liter than a ferrari does.

Posted by jinxed84 on Aug-23-2002 02:52:

from personal experience with nissan(my dad has a 2002 maxima which ive driven) i can say the engine is very very nice. it is smooooooth..wait smoot doesnt begin to explain it ts beyond smooth. ive ben in a decent variety of similar priced nice cars and i can say that that engine is the best that ive experienced...the power delivery is telepathic you push the gas it goes like a bat out a hell. wherever you are; how fast ,revs.. does not matter it just pulls like crazy. going from 50ish to 90 in that car is quite fun. ok enough said about the maxima i personally think its on of the best cars out there for that kind of money but thats MO

now im pretty sure that engine is the same thats going into the new infinity G35 which will have 275+hp. that engine with that spec in that car(which is looking beautiful i might add IMO) its gonna knock your socks off. 6speed manual with RWD yes drool. (tidbit of opinion)... my dad is about to sell the maxima to my brother so he can switch most likely to the G35..so obviosly hes impressed with the product line) oh yeah more about the engine..gets great gas mileage.. this weekend he went up to maine (from CT) with him my stepmom and two freinds and they got 28mpg with the A/C on...so you wont have to worry about fuel economy. thats enough about that car now onto the other choices.

the IS300 decent looking car with the sport package and all the goodies. ive heard one story from a guy with a BMW 330i that an IS300 raced him on the highway way past legal speeds and he said the IS blew him away past about 90 or so..supposedly has amazing top end(how that happned i dunno but its kind cool for IS owners) some problems, its only a 4 cyliner so you arent gonna get huge amounts of torque like you would out of the G35 but if you arent a torque nut hey that doesnt really matter. lexus is comming out with a "L tuned" version of the IS300 which has upgraded suspension and a little more power i think(article in motor trend or some magazine i read today..didnt bother reading it) so you may want to check that out further

the audi option...first question why the 1.8T and not the 3.0 quattro? AWD with a 6 speed and those cars look SWEET with the sport package. quattro AWD..another tidbit... a guy my brother knows went shopping for a car either Jaguar s-type,Volvo S80,BMW 540i...so hes talking to all these dealers and they tell him hes gonna have to spend like $1500 on snow tires for the winter, and they tell hiom the only way youre gonna get around that is if you buy an audi....so he went to the audi place test drove a A6 4.2 quattro and bought it the same day...now he uses sport tires all year round(he lives in MICHIGAN) AWD on the audi takes care of it, and i digress. what im trying to say is audi quattro is legendary read up about its history and youll see(the quattro a4's gt kicked out of a racing league case it gave them an "unfair advantage"). and through my brother and various automotive magazines audis have the best interiors around better than BMW. and if youve ever been in a BMW thats kinda hard to beat. think about it...where do you spend all your time...aint on the roof.

so in conclusion each car is good in its own respect it all kinda depends on how much you are willing to spend and what you are looking for; a 4 door like the lexus or audi or a coupe like the infiniti.

sorry about all this second hand information like i know this guy and my dads car and all that but i LOVE cars and i love comparing cars as does my brother so the information is fair i guess no brand favorites(cause we both used to be entralled with BMW untill he went for a ride in the A6) blah blah blah i keep typing and typing

ahh more second hand information comes to mind
ok my uncle (certified expensive car nut. owns a fully restored Porsche 365a a BMW 540i, an audi station wagon and a Corvette stingray. not only does he know how cars he knows how to properly DRIVE the cars..there is a big difference between an experience driver and some nutcase 16year old thinkng hes mario andretti...so he goes car shopping BMW M3..dealers are charginf a $10k premium over sticker, no thanks. then on to Audi S4 and BMW 3 series (he test trove a 328i) he said the 328 made the S4 which has a 250hp twin turbo 6 feel slow. and thats the e36 328, not even talking about the e46 330(totally redesigned platform)so i guess that adds a little to the compraison just for informations sake(he ended up gong with the 540i(he brought my 2 brothers an i for a joyride in it at the same time and did a nice run too 100...fun fun fun power..and the suspesion is mint. and i keep blabbing.

well i hope you make an informed descision on your car purchase. most importantly test drive all the cars to see what fit you. not what your buddies think is cool...they will think whatever you drive is cool when all they see is your tailights i hope i could shed some light on a rather hotly debated subject.

now if i could only find my asbestos underwear

lol thx for the info jinxed.

Posted by STi_WRX02 on Aug-23-2002 11:19:

Hey LayzZy, I was in a similar position as you. I was deciding on either the WRX, CL Type S, G35, IS300 and 330ci. I ended up with the WRX which I was very happy with. Mainly cause I'm a Sube fan! From personal experience from driving the 02' Audi A4 1.8 T, TL&CL Type S, BMW 330 series and M3, G35 and Benz C-Class. Out of those cars I'd get the Audi or CL Type S. G35 has great power and modest handling for it's size and weight class. but lacks a 6 spd which Nissian is sonsidering in the 03'-04' models. Also from Nissan the 350Z The Audi is GREAT! I had the chance to drive it for a week and at the end of it I didn't want to let it go. It has solid power with torque and all bandwidths. AWD system/handling was solid with good feel. Brakes were also good. CL Type S shouldn't be overlooked. Heavy for a sport coupe but the 260HP, 6 Spd and good torque make up for the heavyness. Lexus IS300....not a fan of it. 200 HP just doesn't do it for me and the shifter on the 5spd is kinda crummy but short enough.

ohh..about the M3 vs. Civic.
Yeah its possible. kinda common too. My Rex can take on the Zo6 and M3. I've beaten them a coupla times. but they're still fast fukin' car. If my ride wasn't mod'ed, I'd get dusted. It would be more outrageous if someone says they've taken 911's, GT2's, McLaren's

Latez,
