Sounds nice Andy, like the blipblop and the beat. Got good energy going so I think you should continue.

Maybe start off with some pad in the break and go from there?

I usually play around with my software on a daily basis, sometimes it'll just be for 10 minutes, and sometimes it'll be 5 hours. It really depends on how innovated I feel.

Cheers fuxzz..

Yeah got some Ideas but my theory sucks but we'll see. Might force myself to break the cylce and finish a track but If you don't see it posted next door in a few weeks you know why

Yeah I know how that feels, Im really shitty on theory to but as long as you know which key the song is in you can just check chords that go along with that blip mel and hopefully stumble on something useful.

Just do your best I will keep an eye in Promo forum

wow, and I who have been saving for plastic surgery. Didn't know the promo forum could make you beautiful

Just make the time u got count. And try not to think to much. Also remember the song will not go away so if you don't finish it right away you got plenty of time to do so in the future

i started producing around a year and a half ago, started doing like 10-15 hours a week now i am around 7 hours a week which is enough to have a new track each month which i think it's enough at this point, thing is that sitting in front of the daw stress me a lot so i usually make 3 short attempts each day, maybe i should establish a new workflow because i lose interest when the track is 70% finishedu and you can overhear the result which i am rarely satisfied with...

Thing is though I get board quite easily and once I've lost interest I move on to the next "wip" which never gets finished.. Its not all without loss though I do practice certin things and in general I do feel my production skills are improving slowly but surely but just never finish out I start.. Like a said I will make an effort so I'll see how it goes.

I'm about to lock down this weekend and finish up track 2 of a 3 track release. Wish me luck... ears are still sort of cashed from the thievery corp show last weekend.

you have to finish something, i edit some tracks after a few months but i tend to finish what i start it's the only way to progress so change your mind

I know but if I lose interest I can't give 100% to the track and it will suffer for it. I never post any of my wips because I'm pretty realistic about where I'm at right now and don't try to kid myself.

Now I'm just making excuses

Posted by Rodri Santos on Sep-10-2011 14:49:

even the pros make total fail tracks , sometimes all you need is to change something, for example one of my friend told me to change the bassline of a track that i rejected and now it sounds a lot better, don't be shy

I really don't understand why so many of you guys can't finish your own tracks. How do you sit down and start producing the beginning of a track if you don't know what's going to come after? I'm honestly asking, it makes no sense to me. If you regularly waste a lot of WIP's and time because you get to a point in the track, ask yourself "now what?" and nobody answers, then stop whatever you're doing. It doesn't work.

Every time you write a track, you need to stop yourself at some point and think "okay, the song is going to go in a different direction, what do I do now?". If you have no idea, then it seems a little silly that you bothered writing a 4 minute intro leading to unknown territory, doesn't it? If you have to be in this situation at some point, no matter what, why not do it first? Get the actual song written before you do anything else.

I spent 10 hours working on a track today. Fuck me, I'm tired.. got the entire intro and first half of the breakdown finished though, and it's sounding incredible so far. Can't wait to show this one off.

It totaly depends how I start a track. If I do have an Idea for a melody or whatever I'll start at the breakdown and go from there. If not I will start with just a kick and see where it takes me, usually not far but bah who cares? I'm learning, improving and still having fun.

a lot of people ive talked to lay out the track as fast as possible and get the structure out, surprisingly they also reuse the same structure exclusively, something im not very happy about(i love dabbling in structure) but its their choice. could work for you, its as simple as writing out a few sections on paper and creating the space for it in your timeline. fill in the gaps, write music, and make transitions.

moral of the story? get it done, hammer it out, its easier to fix than to write from nothing. keep a fresh perspective and learn!

Thinking about it, is it really that surprising?

I think alot of producers if being honest will admit to doing this (or have done this). Kinda predictable in a way, hardly original I know but if it works then why not. I'm sure the format will eventually bore them and they'll try something else in the future.

Posted by Rodri Santos on Sep-11-2011 14:01:

one thing that may help you as i usually work this way is getting all the melodies and things that you'll use and make the intro , breakdown, outro, in short the basic structure of the track, after that all is merging the parts, adding effects sfx and mixing, i'd say that the basic structure of the track can be done in a few hours and after that you'll feel that the track is really in progress.

ive been producing since 2008, never lost the love and dont see me ever doing so cause i love to exercisw my musical mind. id say i spend about 2-3 hours a day in my studio and about 15-25 hours a week depending on what i am working on. it never affects my social life tho.

I logged in about 1700 hours in 4 months. I"m beings conservative. A bit of everything , producing, composing , orchestrating, conducting .....

Imagine knowing what you can do and how fast then given a deadline which means that you won't be sleeping the next 3 days. Fun stuff, Would do these insane marathons, small break, then more, rinse and repeat.
