Nah, going back to someone's house and staying up is linked with taking drugs. When we leave the club, we're all wide awake, chatting away and going to bed is the last thing on our minds so we all go back somewhere together for an afterparty.

If I hadn't taken anything, then I'd be ready to call it a night when I've left the club and be tired enough that I'd fall asleep the second my head hit the pillow. Instead, the routine ends up being to leave the club at 5ish, go back to a mates house for a few hours, then go to bed. Spend an hour trying to drift off (even though I've come down a while ago), finally fall asleep, wake up 2-3 hours later still tired but awake, knowing I won't be able to sleep again for the rest of the day.

The problem I find with taking stuff is it can become an "all or nothing" situation. I've tried before to just take a couple of bombs then going home straight after the club but it never works out that way. And god help me when trying to reason with myself whilst under the influence...

This is why I'm in the position of either learning to take nothing at all or only going clubbing a few times a year...

It can be difficult the first few times, especially if everyone else is doing shit. But you get to the stage where you dont even really think that much about dropping anymore - kinda hard to explain, i guess it happens with age

You definitely have to force yourself to abstain though.

Dancing Dude

in the crew you go with, being the top dog is about a) doing the most in proportion to how sober you appear, or b) doing none and appearing to stay fresh and on your feet.

you know what keeps you up? learning a few more dance moves. shaking from side to side and bending your knees while fist pumping is the most most people can manage. if you suddenly bust out footwork to and all your body is used to doing is dilly-dallying on teh dance floor then your brain will release chemicals you have hitherto only thought to be synthetic. and then you will rush.

feel the monkey.

Switch to cocaine.

I only party afterhours once a month, and I'll take my drugs. Regular hours 10pm-3am there's no need for me to take drugs, so I endulge once a month.. and every so often when that legendary DJ spins an extended sets I'll go hard..

I personally can't understand how people go to all night parties every weekend let alone both friday and saturday night. I get my fix by going nuts once a month and dancing for 8 hours straight.

I'm the same way dude. If I take 1 bomber I'm taking them all. My bomb usage is like a light switch. On or Off. Once I get started I'll go all night/the next day if I have ready access to them. I prefer leave that switch off because if I go into that mode I know I'm shot for the next 2-3 day easy. Its just not worth it anymore. I have commitments, family events. My friends and family need me. Can't be laying on the couch for 3 days like a tard.

The worst night I ever did was 7 or 8 bombs friday/saturday. This was back in 2006. Still fucked up when I woke up on Sunday. I went to the local grocery store on Monday and tried to go shopping for myself. Not once, but twice, I accidentally walked away with someone elses shopping cart full of food that wasnt mine. The store manager comes up to me, with an old lady standing next to him, "I believe you accidentally took this woman's cart". He was right. Then 5 minutes later in the frozen food isle I did it again but at least caught myself. I got the fuck out of that store and stayed home until wednesday. Never again.

Anyways, sounds like you know yourself, and you're maturing. Probably have a decent job or taking classes. Its time to slow down just go with the flow. The clubs arent going anywhere. Just go a few times a year and leave it at that.

This too. I started taking bboy lessons 2 years ago. The high I get when I leave class is ridiculous. I'm chatty mc-chat chat. Legitimately geeked from the workout and the excitement of accomplishing something. I'm doing a project where I record my windmill progress on video. Once I have them down I'm going to build a compilation and get it up on youtube. I'm probably 50% of the way there. Can only imagine what it feels like to rip it up in NY in front of an audience. Woof!

Do any of us deliberately choose to go somewhere average/shit relying on pills to make it a good night?

We always choose events that we think will be really good. Whether they turn out to be as good as we hoped is another matter.

Well I went to a thing that I realised i was way too tired to enjoy so was tempted to go home once. Then I took some shrooms, and I completely forgot about being tired.

Fair enough. My point is simply that partying sober requires you to set somewhat higher standards for the events you attend, and that's not a bad thing.

If you get bored with drugs just force them on someone else. Get to know them.

Some good posts, thank you.

I'm going to see Plastikman live show on December 1st. As far as I'm aware this is a 2am finish so this will be a very do-able night without drugs. Won't be easy as we've booked 2 nights in an apartment and everyone around me will be going all out, but if I can't last until 2am at a show like this without drugs and not enjoy myself then I might as well pack up my clubbing stuff, give it to the first pill-poppin 18year old trance head I see and call it a day...

Incidentally, in regards to bustin some new dance moves to keep energised, is it possible to dance to Spastik without fist pumping?

i haven't tested harsh drugs but i drink a lot, smoke tobacco and ocasionally some weed (although i don't consider myself addict to this at all).

I can't stand 99% of the party of my city , i need alcohol and tabacco to enjoy the party at the same level others do ( in my defense i'd say that all my friends are more or less like me, i feel reflected in you because my ambience is pretty much the same, and you try to quit smoking but everyone else surrounding you does...

The solution for me (as someone has already suggested) is to go to better parties, for me is imposible to be partying for 10 hours without being drunk, instead i just go out to have a beer and 1-2 drinks every weekend and when a festival or a good dj drops in a nearby city i go there, i don't need to drink and almost forget about smoking, in fact i don't drink at all because i am scared that i may be really drunk and lose the show (which already happened) all i need is red bull :P

The other thing that makes me go clubbing happily is when i am spinning, i get a drink or 2 in the whole night but neglect them, sometimes i only drink half of it in 3 hours i am completely concentrated

so in short:

- Change your ambience + bigger partys
- Establish your own party

around 2000 - 2004 i used to get caked in drugs every friday and saturday night, and i honestly couldnt bare the thought of going to a night without drugs.

april this year i went to a speedcore night with no drugs, and i danced alllll night til 6am, and i had a better time than i ever did with drugs

Drugs are a prerequisite to a Plastikman Live show. It's basically tailor made for being under the influence of drugs. This is a fact.

Posted by corjay9 on Sep-10-2011 17:13:

I saw Plastikman live with only a few beers in me and had a fucking blast. No drugs needed, it's really fucking good. Even my friend who doesn't do house/techno loved Plastikman.

Posted by pozz on Sep-10-2011 17:39:

ye, strangely my friend loves plastikman even though he listens almost entirely to bands. he can't keep a beat, so he bobs his head irregularly to the music.

@G-Con - learn to shuffle. there are tons of variations and typing up "shuffle" or "house dance" on youtube will net good results. the steps will take a while to learn, but once you pick up the groove then you can do all kindsa footjangles. if you never tried to dance like this before the best advice is to copy what you like until you come up with your own moves.

ah yes, the sweet sound of Spastik on the dancefloor for close to 20years now. chikichikichakachakaduhduhduhduh

Everyday I'm shufflin

Mixed drugs and clubbing only twice, but clubbed many more times. I have stopped both now, but they were never all that closely connected for me. The end of clubbing had much more to do with moving to a new place, away from old friends. But if I were in a bigger city I could definitely see myself going out regularly again. The drugs, not so much.

If the music is good enough, I'll make it all night. No booze or drugs necessary. I have to give it to my wife, she is a trooper as well. We are looking forward to pulling an all nighter in October with King Lawler. You ready Markus?????

sadly that's not very crazy

I know lots and lots of people who would rather use at home and only go out to pick up

to be fair some of the best times of my life have been holed up in an apartment for days on end with a few close friends, but it's a bad thing to get into on the regs imo

in response to the original question, lots of my favourite nights out have been relatively or completely sober - even afterhours/next-day events. but then I "suffer" from mania so staying awake is never a problem

I'll say that the reason why Trance was so much to be enjoyed was because I WAS high on that ecstasy way back.

I'll never forget hearing Silence live when I was rolling balls and right in front of the speakers. The atmosphere created from the venue and the bass was just straight up epic. And then the synths had never sounded so intense live. It literally haunted my mind for months. Before the live experience, I had always hated Silence. I remember someone saying that Silence literally made people CRY back then. Well, I didn't cry, but was somewhere near the level of going emotionally unstable/insane from the epicness of that track at the time.

Oh yeah, I have to admit, it was the ecstasy that really makes me feel the music 10x more.

It's like, being sober, I can enjoy it and appreciate it a lot, but being sober, the music just gets tiring easily sometimes.

When you're on E, you can focus 100% on the music, hear some crazier sounds, (distortion from drugs?), and you visualize much more crazier images. It's awesome, really.

So sadly, I'm a sucker for E and Trance. But I can still enjoy Trance without E. It's just, I'm not in party mode without the E.
