Pages (2): « 1 [2]
he played all his songs and a few A&B tracks too. he played massive attack - teardrop and some armin... i liked it, but he didnt get into any serious crazy trance
A group of us caught him in LA the night before his gig @ Mansion. My take on his set is pretty much the same as everyone else:
- solid mixing (no beat matching f'ups, flowed harmonically, etc.)
- he played all of his songs
- way too many cheesy/fluffy vocals (almost every song)
- his set never really went anywhere
If there's nothing else going that weekend and/or you haven't seen him before and want to get it out of the way then I'd recommend catching him the next time he's around, otherwise I'd say he's a definite pass as a "headliner." Full disclosure: on my night it just so happened that Simon Patterson got the early time slot, with Arty coming on right after. I knew this was going to end badly before even stepping into the club. Nonetheless I still had some hope until 5 minutes into Arty's set and then I said fuck it..... I guess it all depends on what style of edm you like. Different strokes for different folks, I can respect that...... I'd classify his style as fluffy prog more so than trance. 10 minutes in I was thinking to myself that Arty straight up sounds like Kaskade. I'm surprised that the Mansion crowd didn't eat this up...... In LA Arty managed to keep the room full until the very end (3:00ish); and we stop serving alcohol at 2am......
