Talking about the marketing, FL studio posted this poll to their facebook page multiple times, the page has 100,000+ fans.

Second, you're right! A lot of beginners come to FL because of it's (relatively) low learning curve.

Third, You're right! FL ins't as technically awesome as other daws.

However, I still use it, even though I know it is probably not the best daw (if there is one), and that's because it's what I'm comfortable with using. It's a simple as that.

I'm comfortable knowing that I can't run 40 instances of Massive at the same time, that's just me. Hell, I'm comfortable knowing that running 200 samplers would crash my PC.

Say there are two people writing books. One uses an awesome computer and the other uses a typewriter. One has a clear advantage in terms of equipment, but both are capable of writing awesome books.

I always try and keep in mind that the best artist in the world can keep you entertained with a spoon, and not only for a couple of minutes, for hours.

Well, maybe. Probably not the average american teen.

Not exactly true.. I can fill up all my 8 gigs in FL on Win7 64bit, with FL Extended Memory executable.. You can also enable "Read Large Audio From HDD" and you will never run out of ram..

It's popular with noobs because alongside Live (also popular with noobs) it's possibly the most cracked and easy to install DAW available for free.

I don't think that's the reason, there's nothing difficult about installing any DAW that doesn't have dongle protection.

I'm not talking about win7 - that's a 64bit OS - I'm talking about FL's ability to actively use more than 32bit worth of RAM, which as I understand is impossible for FL as it is only a 32bit DAW. It was also written in Delphi which is only 32bit.

That's why image line keep using the term "64bit support" rather than 64bit Daw or platform.

FL extended memory only truly allows 4g (the max possible with a 32bit platform) and the rest is virtual memory which is not the same thing at all.

Also, read large audio from HD is just another band aid, using virtual memory to make up for lack of physically addressable RAM.

No one is debating that anyone talented can make music on anything, and there's not best DAW, but is limited in terms of functions and ability, when compared with any of the other major DAW platforms.

And yes, it's the most popular because it doesn't look all scary to noobs, and it is by far the most cracked DAW;

with logic, you're locked out again the moment apple do a bug fix update, and it's not as simple as applying a patch or entering a serial number as apple keep blocking the serials.

With cubase it is several months with each version until a working crack came out that gets around the dongle protection, and even then most people say they are buggy as fuck.

Sonar cracks are not that abundant and even then they are somewhat buggy.

Within days of a new version of FL coming out, there's a working crack on the torrent sites. It's been that way with every version.

Oh, and finally, everyone that keeps dropping big names that use FL - get real. They maybe made their first two tracks solely in FL but the moment a record label or management team is involved their fl file is bounced down and it's mixed in a pro environment, more times that not in PTHD.

No mention of Reason or Live? Those were actually easier to crack than FL in my experience.

Why are we even having this argument? Seriously, this is the sort of discussion we mock anywhere else. Nobody is saying FL Studio is perfect, so I don't see why people are pointing out trivial technical limitations that don't really get in the way of myself or other people who can successfully use the program. You're pointing out the obvious, and it doesn't prove anything.

Every single DAW has pros and cons compared to others, including FL. Focusing on all of the negatives and ignoring the things it does well is just selectively arguing your point, and it isn't a point that needs arguing in the first place.

It's up to the user to decide to weigh those pros and cons themselves, depending on their needs in a DAW. FL works for a ton of people. Isn't that enough?

My point about FL was why a lot of noobs use it, not it's ability as a DAW. In fact at least two or three of my very favourite, and what I consider to be most talented 'amateurs' use FL. As a vehicle for creating EDM it's pretty good, although personally I couldn't get on with the workflow.
