Next time, just sit down at the table and completely ignore him. Be sure to fidget with stuff that's on the table, continually bumping his screen or whatever. Sit really close to him, too.
You can't go wrong with drool, either. It's how I get the best seats at any theater.

As far as water goes, only rookies don't have water with it. It dehydrates you, you're meant to replenish the liquid. Water and coffee go fantastically well together.

Normally I would say that you should have just asserted yourself and said, politely, "Excuse me, but that was my book you moved and I intended on sitting there." However, that was the outlet spot, and the guy had a computer. In my opinion the polite and correct move was to let him have the table.
