I had a similar thought while watching.

I don't know. They used synths that are in Reason and had the Reason graphics package and talked a little bit about Reason but I think you're both confusing causation and correlation.

I like this song. Why not make an extra buck with an advertorial about it promoting the tool that inspires you and enables you to do what you love. I'd do it if I'd have the chance. Probably at least another month's pay right there and less than a day work to put in for the video. Easy.

hey does anyone know what midi controller that is?

Posted by Aureliou on Jan-10-2012 07:49:

that would be the akai lpk25

smallest midi controller i believe...i was looking to pick it up then i saw the akai mpk mini (which is a merging of lpk25 and lpd8), might get this one for the pads and knobs

Errrr....this was done by Propellerhead Software as one of their 'Artist Stories' (link below), so yes, it definitely involves a bit of advertising for Reason. I don't like the track, but you can't deny it was a hit, because it was - number 1 in 16 countries and more than 50 million combined views on Youtube for the video. I have to say that I admire him, he sat down at his laptop (probably) and came up with an absolutely huge hit - isn't that what we'd all love to do? Technically it wasn't difficult to do, but he had the perfect combination of ingredients. Good job.

I don't think that's it. Look:

It's thinner and there are no controls on top

Posted by Kysora on Jan-10-2012 18:43:

Read his post, he said the video has the LPK25 but he went with the MPK, since it has pad/knob controls instead of just keys.

The Akai LPK25:

might be an Ion Discover, though:

though they look more or less exactly the same, who knows

Posted by meriter on Jan-10-2012 18:51:

oooh okay. missed that.

I don't really care for, or care about the song. But, that's beside the point.

i don't know if it is jealousy or some sort of despair for human kind. The track is awful. I mean this is Rebecca Black territory. I mean i am just dumbfounded that something so bad can resonate with people. I and unlike Black who made her coin of licensing for satire, this turd somehow managed to make not just a charting position but number 1 ? It really is amazing.

I mean at least basshunter, i mean i could understand how that could be liked by teens and what not. But this track, this guy. His image, his brand, i really have a hard time understanding how anyone could like it.

I would like to think some form of payola was involved.

the guy willl disapear. He is a douche. I am trying to figure out which emotion is making me feel this. I think it is a sense of complete unfairness. How this guy managed to do what he did when so many better candidates , even those making similar junk , it just seems like some sort of fucking universal imbalance.

And I am very open minded. But this track, i mean i would of lost of my shirt if someone asked me whether it would be big. And my radar is rarely wrong. Ever. i mean i can spot a turd that will be big, but this is just fucking weird.

Haha, the more this track winds people up, the more awesome it becomes. Ultra-nerdy looking guy makes massive smash hit on his laptop in his bedroom in an hour or whatever; using nothing but Reason. Brilliant.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jan-10-2012 21:04:

more sad than brilliant. It says alot more about society. i don't know man. Opportunism is not brilliance, just luck and i guess a climate where you can sell manure and call it club music.

There is really a huge difference between say this, and other garbage SHM, which i get in that i get why they are big. I really don't see how this happened.

I mean are his figures bloated ? I just can't believe that he even reached a mainstream audience.

I think the point is that it DOESN'T resonate with people. It's just safe and easy and comfortable to listen to in a large group of people where you don't have to worry about individuality. Anything with feeling makes people uncomfortable. That's the rule of pop music isn't it? It has to illicit no emotion in order to be successful, otherwise you are narrowing down your audience. It's just something a huge amount of insecure uncomfortable people that need acceptance can agree upon.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jan-10-2012 21:31:

naw

there is something more going on here. There have been some bad tunes, i mean macarena but even then, i get it. But this track. There is just nothing there. I mean it is obvious he is from the french upper crust , and i could make sense of it if like padding the right pockets where 1 awful track is ok in a mix of radio shite, but like this is the worst track i have ever heard to make such a dent.

i mean even are you jimmy ray had more going for it.

Posted by meriter on Jan-10-2012 21:31:

he's probably a mason

Maybe its throwing you off because its french? It sounds a standard grade pop dance song to me.

If a track makes people dance, then the track is win IMO.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jan-10-2012 23:11:

nope. Raised in Montreal. LIsten to lots of french stuff. And there really is nothing french about that track. Honestly, i mean you have to see videos of himself talking. I mean what the fuck. Honestly, what is going on. Why is nobody getting up and just slapping him in the face.

i mean this is fucking funny. anyways, i have to stop or i will slap my screens.

Posted by Kysora on Jan-11-2012 00:28:

I'd think you of all people would have little enough faith in people in general by now, to be surprised when shit like this floats to the top. American politics is proof enough that people are collectively willing to make the worst possible fucking choices. I dunno.

Maybe I'm just a pessimist but stuff like this, expecting anything else is giving people a bit too much credit.

He made a track that people love and he probably made a decent chunk of change too. What's the problem? You think he gives a fuck how much time the rest of us spend in our studios circle jerking and trolling the internet for more gear to feed our GAS?
I wouldn't. Talk about tall poppy syndrome...

Nothing, it's just disappointing is all. What's the problem with us having a different opinion than you?

You don't know what "trolling" means, do you?

And no, I don't think he does, just like I don't think McDonalds cares that michelin-starred restaurants might think a Big Mac tastes like garbage. Opinions aren't invalidated just because the person they're direct towards doesn't "give a fuck".
