Mansion on Dennis Ferrer Incident: "We Had to Make a Call When His Set Cleared the Venue"
Earlier this week, we told you about South Beach's Mansion kicking its headliner Dennis Ferrer off the decks mid-set for not playing "commercial enough." And then we followed up with Mr. Ferrer's remarks about the incident.

Well, after much backlash and shit-talking about the nightclub from EDM fans on the web, Mansion and Opium Group has finally commented.

"While Mansion has enjoyed having Dennis Ferrer spin for us twice before," senior vice president of communications Vanessa Menkes tells Crossfade, "we had to make a call when Dennis's opener and Dennis's own opening set cleared the venue of half our guests in 42 minutes last Saturday.

"As a venue, we owe it to our guests who have paid admission to provide good music, and as Dennis's own real-time tweet said, 'everyone is just standing going huh.'

Indeed, Ferrer tweeted on Saturday night that "everyone is just standing going huh" and "looks like a education is in store for tonight." Apparently, the DJ was hoping to school Mansion's patrons on the merits of proper underground house music. But then he got cut off.

"Mansion has been innovative in bringing diverse forms of music to this market," Menkes explains, "including sold-out shows with several DJs in the underground genre including Audiofly, Nic Fanciulli, Joris Voorn, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Sasha & John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, Umek, Gaiser, James Zabiela, Sebastien Leger, Pig & Dan, and many more.

Opium Group adds, "It wouldn't be fair to blame it on Mansion wanting 'commercial house music' as we never requested that, nor would we have booked Dennis Ferrer if we wanted a purely commercial set, although Dennis's set was actually quite commercial featuring several Beatport Top 100 tracks.

"Unfortunately, the set just wasn't working. And when we advised that the crowd wasn't moving to the set, he threw his hands up and said, 'I've got nothing.' Every DJ has a bad day, and Dennis's was last Saturday."
