Agreed. My wife and I have a photo website with a .net domain and people are always telling us that they tried to find it, but couldn't and, of course, they were using .com.

I guess it's a good thing I came up with my artist name many years ago. I'm trying to come up with a name for this new downtempo side project and I've discovered that EVERY f###ing name I've come up with, even quirky mispellings, are all taken! I've come up with dozens of ideas over the past few weeks, mostly associated with terms that the general public probably wouldn't be familiar with, and nada - every single one has been used. I guess that's one of the casualties of the boom in music production and the Internet, eh? Anybody else noticed this?

I'm fortunate that I chose the artist name "Zodiacal Light" when I did, surely it would've been taken by now. I use the name "Zodiacal Light Project" when I produce other styles of music, such as Alternative Rock. I got that idea from Allen Parsons, of course. I feel if I use another name it'll just confuse people. I want people to know it's me.

Just tack on something to the end of your artist name for other projects, such as "Cryophonik Experiment". Build on what you already have.

All you can really do is settle on the name you want and be better and shine brighter than the others, then it's YOUR name.

I was looking to purchase some digital property a few weeks ago, .com & other common endings were taken, so I punch in the coordinates to the sites and they transferred me to a blank page with Ads...I had another domain name in mind, but that site lead to an error page.

Like what! the good news is

Who knows how long it'll take to expire though...

You could always settle with the use of a hyphen

I've been thinking about just coming up with a regular name, but fake. Like George Wellington or something obscure that hasn't been used.

The domain flipping industry is one of the most competitive industries in the marketing world.

The sooner you realize this the better.

Disagree. All the generic ones are taken or too expensive. Just come up with an original catchy name and you're set. Think netflix, hulu, twitter, spotify, deadmau5. Done.

Yes you are right just go with livecat7 and you will be fine.

Oh wait... even that is taken. =[

You should know there is a small army of brand managers that do nothing but DEVELOP original/catchy names for a living. Funny thing is most of the brand names/logos they sell, you can't even buy a domain for. All I'm saying is the actual chances of you finding a GOOD clean, short, catchy name, make it that much harder to do.

Not saying you can't find any, just saying chances are the name is going to suck and only you are going to like it. =]

whois.domaintools.com/livecat7.com/

Nice try though.

I really disagree just because of the 5 I mentioned and I could probably add another 15 from the top of my head. Once you got a cool concept the name doesn't really matter that much as long as it's easy to remember.

You're probably right I think utlimately its going to depend on the niche.

When we had to pick our own business name (nonrelated to music) it took us 3 months to track down a solid name.

However since artists can realistically pick ANY name they want, it really shouldn't be hard. For business's however, I would say its a totally different story.

Haha thanks man!

I'm working on a pack of free sounds I'll be getting up in a few days so keep your eyes peeled.

In all the time I've been on these forums I'm yet to see a good soundpack dedicated 100% to heavily distorted bass/fm sounds, so I will be releasing a pack for free by the end of the week.

If it gets good enough reviews, I may even wind up posting it on ebay for a low fee.
Just to show my gratitude for these forums and to start giving some real value back to TA.

Awesome to be back and take care bro - Robby
