mix it live on decks (one take, no retries), then normalize the sound level only if necessary. which mix CD released nowadays was mixed live?! and why can't DJs take up the challenge of mixing it live, if they can do it in clubs?

But I hate it when CD's are mixed with vinyl and you can notice the DJ's poor mixing skills (if they are very obvious) Example: ISOS 3

what errors did you notice on ISOS 3? the mixing sounds flawless to me.

I remember listening to one of the Aus' MOS Hard NRG cds and one of the songs had the entire middle section cut out, as though nobody would notice. Well i noticed, and i have no respect for anything released by MOS anymore

I was wonderin how the hell do mixes on cd compilations fit 18 or more tracks?

I was tryin to do this, and i'd probably have to be God to do it.

I found that:

- 18 track (or more) cd mixes are mix by using a computer program.
- 14 track (or less) cd mixes are done with turntables.

Me too! But it's the only way they can fit 18 songs into one album. Another prime example of MOS's editing is Trance Nation 4 - CD2 - Track 17 - Orion - Eternity (Darren Tate mix). So much for the three minute breakdown!!!

You should check Essential Underground - Vol 4, CD2 - Mixed by Marco Bailey.

30 tracks, and I dont think he used any computer program since it doesnt sound _that_ perfect, though its still awesome.

But then again, Marco Bailey is a very skilled DJ and producer

that may be true (though not always) for trance/progressive mixes, but FYI, Coldcut has mixed 35 songs in Journeys By DJ: 70 Minutes of Madness. songs last anywhere from over 5 minutes to 40 seconds. definitely not trance, but they jumped from jungle to techno to hip hop to ambient.

that said, number of songs contained doesn't really reflect the DJ's skills. Digger's GU019 has "only" 11 songs on each disc, and who's there to say John Digweed doesn't have madskillz?
