I'm usually a few months ahead of the mainstream with internet memes and funny jokes/videos that are found on the web. Often viral videos and popular memes that are just beginning to be talked about IRL are things I've already come across and long forgotten 6 months ago.

I guess this part would be me too, though I'm not really into sports these days, at all.

I don't watch TV, but I buy movies and TV series on DVD that I want to watch. I just can't handle the advertising breaks through everything on regular TV And I don't give anywhere NEAR enough of a shit to pay for cable TV - It would just be more crappy stuff that I don't watch. Or, worse, I could get really into all that shit and spend stupid amounts of time just watching TV.

Internet culture is funny though. It can often be way more interactive too. But, I hear what you're saying. Nearly all my friends are not what you would call "computer people". Most don't even use FB. So when they find these old memes, vids, photochops and share them with me.... Oh man, that was like 4 years ago... never mind... yes, very funny.

So, obviously, I spend too much time on the net

If I watch an episode of The Simpsons, South Park or Family Guy, I spot more of the pop culture references than a lot of people I know. Although this thread seems to actually mean "Do you tune in to mainstream TV and radio?"

A lot less connected than I wish

I don't really keep up with all the fresh gossip and celebrity news. I wish I didn't know about the Kardashians or the Jersey Shore cast, but when you hear the same names brought up 100 fucking times it's hard to forget. I do keep up with current events and some politics from both tv and the web, although I didn't pay much attention to the GOP race (Sorry Kevin). I also have fb and post on a few other boards, but that's pretty much it. So you can say half-way connected, half-way blissfully aloof.

I actually think it's important to have a constant reminder of it, and be able to critique it for what it is...to me that's grounding. Whether we like it or not, this is the shit that's going on in our world. There has to be some moment where we acknowledge it, even if it's just to dismiss it quickly thereafter.

Agreed. I follow some aspects of the real world because I like to know what's going on, even if I have such a growing disdain of my own country's generation and legacy.
