thx !
and i dont want to force myself to love it !

it's just to give prog a chance

Posted by Orbital on Sep-09-2002 13:23:

Just let it grow on you. You can't force yourself to like it. I probably wouldn't have liked it 4 or 5 years ago when i first started getting into this sort of electronic music. Once you've had "standard" trance for a while you seek something a bit more deeper. That's where prog comes in. Once you really start to listen to the different elements of the song. I still like banging tunes and good uplifting trancey stuff but i like my prog as well.

i have that vinyl too...it's supposed to be "Shava"

if you look closely you can see that the "" in Shaiva has a trema (two dots instead of one); you can use a trema only after a vowel which means that the correct name has to be "Shava", not "Shrva"

one of the better progressive trak of ever

Joey Beltram - Energy Flash

Progressive is so different than Trance

different people, different clubs, different flying
different MUSIC

but, now, unfortunatly, Real Progressive is dead
with it situations & it emotions

Remember

another GOOD one

Posted by Abscond on Sep-09-2002 17:23:

good suggestions

It took me a while to get into progressive but everyone is right, it's quite addicting! I'd recommend listening to Tiesto's ISOS 3, great tracks in that.

Posted by infinity HiGH on Sep-09-2002 17:51:

Before listening to singles, listen to sets first. It's easier...and like I said somewhere else, prog is at its best when spun by a killer dj. Or on a mix cd.

Dave Seaman@Qontact 2002
Dave Seaman's GU022
Digweeds MMII

those are my suggestions

Smoking ..umm..something

*ahem* can i get some oliver lieb up in here? borderline progressive in my opinion but not quite "trance" (a good stepping stone to the darker side of trance). i agree with starting off with either Sasha's GU013 or Tiesto's ISOS 3...i forget the whole tracklist to that set but i do remember a few sick progressive tunes like Andain "Summer Calling".... and basically like every single post in this thread: just let it grow on you. there seems to be a series of phases people go through in trance. the more into it you get, the more you start to appreciate the more complex sounds, and then you start to develope a style i went from alice deejay "better off alone" to tillman's "On the Run" Ocean to Shore Club Mix to Oliver Lieb's "Subsonik" and now im a complete proggy/jungle head i still appreciate trance and breaks as well...

Posted by Exponent on Sep-09-2002 20:06:

Someones got a hard on for Lieb these days.

By the way i emailed you. Did you even get it?

the sopposidly A looks very much as an R ..cuz look at the other As used in the lettering on Cyber records and look at the Rs..... youll see what i mean ..but you might be correct about the 2 dots after a vowel they might made an mistake ....on mine or something

the broad is right guys! its just a matter of time!

I went from Public Domain/Alice Deejay, to Tiesto and Corsten, to PvD and now I'm in my Hybrid/Global Underground phase. I still love Trance...but the 96-2000 stuff And now, tribal prog house and trance...mmmm, took me 2 years to get here

Kim Sanders "Food For Thought" (Humate Remix)
Bradski & Jenski "Hardbeat" (Humate Remix)
Humate "3.1.98" (Digweed & Muir's Bedrock Mix)
Max Graham "Tell You"
Max Graham vs Starecase "Love The Bomb"
Satoshi Tommiie "Up In Flames" (Bedrock Mix)
Conjure One "Sleep" (Max Graham Mix)
Human Movement "Vidapura"
Cass & Slide "Perception" (Vocal Mix)

Try any of these...
These are essentially prog tunes (at least in my opinion) but much of them use many trance elements, and are all easy on the ear for first time listeners.

Damn guys...........I have the same problem.......I can't get myself into progressive!!!

I actually went to 3 "kickass" (what others consider )progressive live parties. I went to Steven Lawler, Josh Wink, and Derrick Carter.

I have say I didn't enjoy the music while I was at the parties..............well maybe some tracks..........but overall not what I wanted to hear.

I kinda gave up on progressive...........but my friends are asking me to go see Sasha in October and that he would change my view towards progressive.

Maybe I'll give it another try!!

Posted by elena on Sep-10-2002 05:03:

if you dont like progressive dont try to get yourself to like it..

Posted by basd on Sep-10-2002 06:38:

Don't try to 'get into' progressive if you don't like it, just because some friends say it's cool. You have to discover for yourself what you like, and don't let others talk you into something.

I for myself found out a few years ago (after listening to trance for a short while) that I like progressive a lot more..

Only listening to prog because others tell it's cool results in loads of people who don't really like the music, but listen to it because it's 'cool'. Chances are the next step is people producing cheap-ass wannabe prog just for the cash... This won't do the music any good.

people keep talking about it being more sophisticated then trance etc....

when i listen to it i find it boring...

but i guess it's like when your newbie to trance....you have to let it come to u....

suggest me some tracks for prog newbies...not the cheesy ones....your best ones...

airdrawndagger starts to grow on me

I thought this is a trance forum, is progressive even trance, it sounds like light trance to me, at least any so called progressive I've heard.

Definitely avoid minimal though, yuck...

Posted by PatMcGroin on Sep-10-2002 08:53:

here's my opinion on progressive:
it has GREAT buildups, but there is no climax. like after the buildup it just goes back to the same exact beat it had going before. and it just does that OVER AND OVER AND OVER. there is no release in prog. and to me thats what makes it so "boring."

just my two cents

Posted by mr_smidge on Sep-10-2002 11:04:

I'd say:

Cass & Slide - Perception (Vocal Mix)
Sander Kleinenberg - Venus & Mars (Original Mix)
--

not bad as they both have some lovely vocals...
