AVB is my favorite. I'll never forgot his June set from glow. Best set I've ever heard live. I'm still pissed I missed out last week. Every set I've ever heard by him is filled with top quality new uplifting songs. I really enjoyed seeing Ferry Corsten & Scot Bond also.

I have never lasted through a NY PVD show yet. He starts off to slow in my opinion. Doesn't get into the hard stuff until near the end (like the 4th hour). I am usually toast by that time. His 1 or 2 hour sets I downloaded from 2001 are off the hook, but I've never heard him play live like that.

Tiesto can be really good sometimes but chooses not to be. A short set like his one from Jones Beach is an example of Tiesto playing at his best. But when given 4 hours, 2 of those hours are filled with slow vocal fillers and crappy remixes he made himself.

my fav has been pvd @ twilo by far.. but i gotta agree with jparknyc, AVB's set at aria was off the hook the music, his crowd interaction, the atmosphere was insane. he kept me dancing all night... the only downside of that night: i busted my knee dancing so much

I'd have to say that the best sets I have ever heard were from Marco V, Mauro @ Twilo, PVD @ Twilo, Armin @ too many to remember, Tiesto @ Koolhous, and Ferry @ DanceValley w/Armin.

Its too hard to narrow my favs. down to 1 because I dont believe any dj is consistent every set. Some djs blow my mind 1 day and suck the next, so picking 1 dj to be my #1 is retarded, so the ones above are my favs except for PVD who annoys me beyond belief that he plays 100x better in europe and sucks in the states.

i know what you mean. Paul usually leaves his best for last, the 4 times i've seen him, his last hour was usually the most lively/kickin hour. for nyc he plays monster sessions so he has to play alot of filler songs. in other cities he has a shorter set so they usually sound better

it was end of 2000 actually.. on a saturday!!(Junior's gay night!)i dragged all my friends to go, but like couple of weeks before they were like Mario who??? lol so i let them listen to Mauro Picotto Live @ Rosenmontags Rave set, and theyre like, "so when is he coming to twilo?" haha i remember Paul Johnson came on before Picotto and spun til 2:30, then Picotto came on and played a good but short set..(he finished with Komodo @ 5am, no encore...)highlight of that night was when Picotto played The Horrorist - One Night in NYC(Pascale F.E.O.S. remix) it was awesome, everyone on the dancefloor was like WTF is this? haha ....aahhhh the memories....

For 2 years I LOVED PVD but since last December he's been playing prog house. I'm not gonna start liking prog b/c he's playin it. I'm over him. I don't have a fav anymore. I like anyone who plays HARD & fast without the cheesey synths & sirens.

Daphna! Listen to recent PVD sets (Mayday, Essential Mix, Nature One, etc) -- no progressive house! Lots of amazing tunes!

i personally don't feel paul has changed at all. he's never played just trancy or progressive stuff. He's always spun alittle bit of everything. If anything the only thing that has changed are peoples tastes. Thats fine if ur tastes have changed and ur no longer feeling the artist. But people i don't understand people ripping into them because they've moved on. Its true that paul doesn't bring it for every single hour he's on. He builds it up gradually. I'm totally fine with this. Maybe there are artists that bring it every single minute every hour but, i find that monotonous and quite frankly very tiring . Respect all the artists whether u like em or not...just two cents

i feel tha same...if u listen to paul alot, he takes you on a trip into his virtual world...his comments were quoted in someones sig on TA...it basically stated that he just wants to create a virtual place for his listeners to go to when he spins and for the listeners total benefit...his energy at times is unmatched as well...i appreciate his sets...but sometimes he is a lil bold...he gets very experimental at times...but so what?...it just adds class and a refreshing twist from the normal junk that local dj's are so use to sweatin...omg, if i hear another trance remix of some pop song, ima jus shoot mahself...GUARANTEED...

I don't think anyone is knocking PVD. The man has amazing skills but picks NY as his experiment zone. I'm sure if he was forced to play a 2 hour set here instead of 6, we would all be blown away and he would be everybody's favorite DJ. I started to dislike Tiesto after his long sets at Exit for the same reasons, but regained my faith in the man after Area 2 @ Jones Beach. It seems that Dj's slack without the pressure of time. haha interesting analogy wit tha plane to disneyland...i totally agree wit tha set length playin a major role in tha music and tha overall set...i feel that 4 hours is perfect...not too much time to experiment and fuk around but not too much time to play "played out" tunes also...4 hours should be tha norm...thats jus mah opinion...but again, enigma ur right...length of set could really mess it up...cept if tha dj spins longer than anticipated...god bless them when they stay longer...woOt...

i dont really mind paul's long sets... he always used to play long sets when he had the bi-monthly residency @ twilo, he came on @ 2am and go on til 8,9, even 10o' clock.. thats well over 6 hours he does tend to 'experiment' on ny crowds cuz we're sorta babies to european dance music..(bastard) heheh its all good tho, he usually never fails to take us into the jouney of sound.. he played a 6+ hour set @ SF,cuz thats what he used to do when he played in nyc(before the 1 year hiatus..) and for 6+ hours he played a flawless set! not even one fuck up..yeah he started with progressive, but not just progressive tracks, he played hard banging progressive tracks and made the transition to the more pvd-ish tracks we're all used to...not many djs are on paul's level.. not even close,except for maybe.....SASHA! muhahahahah
