This is exactly what's wrong with the trance community. Morons like you are Unimpressed by something someone else has made. I like to see you assholes do any better. You people have become so god damn picky that you it is YOU that is the reason behind the trance's demise not the fans who continue to love the sounds.

If you so sick and tired of psytrance how about you show the fucking world what you are made off? How about you mother ******s show the world that you can create a unique sound of trance. It really boils my blood everytime I read some asshole not bashing some shitty tech-house artist or some electro artist for sounding all the same or some "progressive house" tune that pretty much uses all the same presets and soundbanks. There are plenty of artist in the progressive house genre that use the same god damn presets and soundbanks but you people don't seem to have a problem with it no...It's only trance that you ******s have a problem with.

It seems that trance fans are by far the most critical and by far has the biggest assholes I have ever come across. If you hate trance that much, why the fuck do you morons still listen to it? You people fucking complain about things sounding all the same. Then, when someone brings in something different, you guys bitch about artist not using the sounds they once used to use. How about you ******s show us how amazing and creative you really are?

It's no wonder a lot trance producers have left the scene...This scene is polluted by mother ****** fans who have become so god damn picky that they can't admit that every piece of music has flaws and that's what makes it great and unique.

Stop being such arrogant mother ******s and just enjoy the music.

It's true what I've written. You really do turn into an asshole yourself when you convert yourself like some of the picky people in this forum. I nearly went into that region but stopped myself.

Instead, I tried to see the positive side, instead of bitching about the shitty music. People seem to think the "glory days" of trance didn't have shitty tunes...Well...tell you what, there were a lot of shocking tunes made in 90s/00 but because we have more people in the industry, there is a lot of gold under a big pile of shit. You just got to have the passion and patience to dig through and you'll definitely find good trance.

I also realized that relying upon "DJs" is a thing of the past. They are biased and will not play the tracks you want them to play. They don't experiment. They rely upon the same god damn label and artist and play it conservatively. To put a stop to this, I Instead, I went out and searched on my own...on beatport/juno that is. And guess what? I found the music that didn't get the attention it deserved.

I'll probably get bashed for this but what the hell...I'll say it anyway...2012 has been the greatest year of trance...Too bad you people are too lazy and short-sighted to dig through the pile of shit that the mainstream assholes make.

I know a lot of you are lazy, unenthusiastic and a bunch of pirates, who can't be fucked looking through beatport.Otherwise, you wouldn't be bitching about how they don't make good tunes anymore.

Wow, where did that come from? Far as I can tell, this has been a mostly positive thread.

No, but Cosmithex has a very distinctive sound, which the others never really had. I have heard a DJ playing a track and said "That's a Cosmithex tune!" and been right, even though I didn't know the track. I could never do that with Ovnimoon if I didn't already know the track. I don't have an issue with a producer repeating a sound, if they're the only ones producing that sound.

Besides, good producers get less generic as they learn more, and Cosmithex has already begun developing his sound. The deeper, more progressive sounds of Shipment, Stone Cold and The Distance are different to the harder, more psychedelic sound of his album. He also has a lot of breaks tracks that he hasn't released. The guy has a lot of variety already, but still with trademark production touches that give him a recognisable and individual sound.

That's nice, maybe you couldn't with omnivoon, but you could with infected mushroom, x-dream, electric universe, furious, kindzadza, dohm (maybe), ocelot, penta, electrypnose, xenomorph, enichkin, 1200 micrograms or vibrasphere.

Just because this thread seems to enjoy somewhat generic progpsy doesn't mean that applies to all psytrance.

This sortof thought goes with any genre really.

Agreed, electronic music has never been better than now.

Granted, but we're talking about people "going over to psy", and people aren't going over to the crazy, out-there shit, they're moving on to this generic prog-psy sound I'm talking about. Paul Oakenfold played an Ovnimoon track in his Essential Mix the other month, for example, so it's relevant to talk about Ovnimoon in this thread.

I did mention plenty of non darkpsy artists but anyway, I'll butt out and just watch what people say rather than inserting my genre fanboiism (unless someone asks for more recommendations).

Naww psy needs more fanboys

I know plenty of psy fanboys (and girls) where I live.

They tend to have a very particular kind of snobbery.

"oh I listen to all kinds of music" (and they actually do for once)
"but when I goto parties... it's all about psytrance and it's the music that moves me the most"
+ after they're drunk they may or may not start an argument with someone about why psy is awesome

On a somewhat related note, I was at a chicks house cos I was banging her and she had 2 room mates. I'd been over there a few times, and I heard him playing a psy track once so a bit later I asked him about it, he didn't seem to say much about it apart from that it was psycraft.

Then a bit later everyone was discussing music and I asked him what music genres he'd say he's into (for me the answer is pytrance, techno, ambient and black metal primarily) and he said trance. I asked him what sortof trance and he said "well I would say psytrance but that's a bit hipster and i didn't wanna make it sound like I was trying to be cool and I didn't wanna be a snob".

Since when do hipsters listen to psytrance and since when is saying you like psytrance snobbish and trying to sound cool (even here they don't, it's electro, or electro swing and all that crap)

I thought this thread might enjoy that anecdote.

Also, there's a bit too much fanboy sometimes... like when 2/3s of the dance floor is on some really strong liquid acid that some asian guy who apparently "works two jobs" was handing out and there's a 2-3 second gap in the music... and in that time a 40 year old tripping chick manages to yell "play some fucking psytrance" in the middle of a gap in the track that's playing because she's too off her tits on drugs.

That's just never a good look.

[edit] I just thought of how sick an idea it'd be to record that guy saying that and then find a spot in a track somewhere for it "well I would say I listen to psytrance but that's just snobbish and I don't wanna sound cool"

Isn't Simon Patterson getting into psytrance too? I listen to his latest podcast and he was playing some psy tunes and he mentioned he was doing a collaboration with Astrix.

Indeed that is wtf, especially as I have noticed a trend of doof's to not book many psy artists. Take Rainbow for instance, there has been a decline in how much psy is played over the years, driving the psy fans to turn to smaller events like Maitreya (by far my fav doof based on music alone). This year's Rainbow lineup has me second guessing whether I want to go or not and I have actually suggested to friends it is more hipster than hippy.

I have also noticed it is driven from the Techno fans, last night for instance Bozdin pulled out of Strawberry Fields. Facebook fans went up in a rage stating "Don't replace him with a psy dj"

For me personally, psy is better in the outdoors. I hate winter and being stuck in a club where i can't cause havoc and run around like a tard. I just feel with the major doof's this season things have shifted. In saying that, farrrrrrrrrk can't wait for Eclipse

i've always had some love for psy in all it's genres. Specially Israeli full on trance but i still listen to everything The digital blonde and the J00F label releases.

Most of the headliners for strawberry fields are techno or that really normal electronicey sortof progpsy though.

I think basically what's gonna happen is underground psy festivals get gradually bigger until they reach a certain point at which they just end up selling out at. Plus there's plenty of smaller psy events, there's about one a week in melbourne currently.

Royal doof is always gonna be good though, fuck yeh royal doof.

Hate the time of year it is, hate winter doofs, being so cold makes me miserable

Posted by InnerReflection on Oct-09-2012 08:45:

I've actually only ever been to doofs in the winter, so I've gotta say they're awesome. Plus they seem to play darker music in the winter so that's convenient.

Solar field's albums are awesome, not sure if most of the stuff counts as progpsy, but I'll add an extra +1 since he's mentioned a lot already. BTW he did the soundtrack for the game mirror's edge (and it's quite listenable on it's own too). It's also among his better work.

Albums I think are great that might be concidered progpsy. Do note whether I put prog or progsy I'm not making a distinction.

Blue Planet Corporation- Blue Planet (prog/goa crossover prog)
Deviant Species-In The hands of the randomizer (minimalpsy/dark prog)
Autonomech-I/O (dark prog)
Electric Universe-Cosmic experience (excellent overall, and some tracks would be concidered prog)
Highpersonic Women-Alternative Energy Source (very much prog) http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music...ve-energysource ektoplazm (free and legal download) link
Hux Flux-Division by Zero (prog)
Noosphere - Radiated (might be concidered prog, probably a bit iffy)
Pick-The Furious EP http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/pick-the-furious
Sensiant-Blue Neevus (from what I've heard, this is the epitomy of dark prog, it's the only sensient album I've heard though)
Sun Project-Zwork (progpsy)
Sun Project-Insectified (progpsy/chill)
Son Kite-Colours (progpsy)
Tegma-Encoded/Decoded (progpsy)
Tetrameth - The Electic Benevolence (zenon style dark prog... but morning mood throughout)
Ticon-Rewind (progpsy)
Ticon-Zero after six (progpsy)
V/A Mechanics of Awakening (dark prog)
VA Psytravellever volume 2 (some tracks would be prog) http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/psytraveller-vol-2
VA Royal Flush volume 4 (progpsy)
Vibrasphere-Archipelago (progpsy/chill)
Vibrasphere - Compilation tracks (progpsy)
VA - Spiral Trax - Swedish Goa Trance & Progressive (prog/goa crossover prog)
Perfect Stranger - Changed (prog)
Cojurious One - The Art of Mindfucking (darkprog)
Dragon - In.Formation (a crossover between darkpsy with a progish buildup)

Downbeat/ambient/psydub crossovers with progpsy:
Huva Network - Distances
Huva Network - Ephemeris
Ocelot - One (sortof)
Solar Fields-Blue moon station (definitely one of my top 10 albums ever)
Solar Fields-Movements
Solar Fields- Mirrors edge soundtrack (breaks/psydub/ambient with a big progpsy influence)
Solar Fields-Extended
Solar Fields-Leaving home
Distant System - Spiral Empire

Thanks for these recommendations, gonna totally have to take a listen. And Mirror's Edge is one of my favorite games of recent years; hearing Solar Fields was doing the music is what originally piqued my interest in it. Son Kite is also awesome, I'm quite partial to this one

Posted by freakster on Oct-09-2012 15:44:

been into psy for a while now, follow artists like christopher lawrence, jOOf, infected noise, magnus. for me psy represents the progression of true trance which is by definition, a genre that is hypnotic.

I still dont understand how artists like avb, above + beyond call their music trance.
