-- Are there any DJ's around that don't play the same genre at every gig?

i probably make more in a weekend for my "fist pump story time" than some people make in a month. i must be doing something wrong, having shoes worth more than you and so on...
I think that you are just out of touch with what is really going on....because there are some really good djs out there that i am sure you have never heard of, even if they are really popular. why? because you are stuck in 2003.
aka you don't know what you are talking about, but we accept it because nobody gives a shit what you think. since 2003.

Anyone who says "the art of DJing is dead" should be required to list all the DJs they went to see in the last 12 months.

Now all we got are producers and label whores caning their own/friend's/label's records and remixes. They're not there to tell you a story. They're only there to promote themselves: The Producer as rock band, live in concert DJing his pre-recorded productions. |
What a load of bollocks Ishkur.. It would be pointless to even elaborate on why you're wrong. Take your keys, open the door and go outside. What a load..

If you go see shitty DJs, chances are that they will be shit. You are like the ghost of Christmas past, the difference being people actually like Christmas.
I didn't know Ishkur was DJ Ryan.
If the DJs all sucked, why did you keep going to events with DJs? Seems to me that you spending money on something you don't like is rather intelligent.

Additionally from the list i know very few names so i guess a lot of them are local based djs , can't judge but if i consider my common clubbing nights in my hometown then i could list like 50 djs that would prove that the art of djing is dead. I don't know what is worse, to have a human jukebox playing matched tracks with a laptop or to have someone struggling to match the beats with cds...
More guys are average than not (i'm talking guest djs...some locals can be great depending on where you are from, but they are not the norm.). If you know who to go see though, the art of djing is not dead. There has been a vinyl rebirth (it never truly died) in certain circles, and it is quite wonderful. Classic records galore, mixed with new material . See shit Djs, expect shit sets. That list was full of obscure nobodies to say the least. Vancouver has always had a shit scene anyway.
actually everytime I go to a club it just reinforces my belief that there is some really special talent out there. At times I get that urge to take up Djing, but then I go to a show and I'm like "man I couldn't have put that awesome set together" lol
Looking forward to an extended Danny Howells set right around Thanksgiving!
that is the difference between going to see a producer with some boring "live set" vs an actual dj. there are still plenty about.

i agree, you've got gigs. i hate to mean, but i would be embarrassed to talk about djing if i put out a mix as poor as your last one. I listened because there were some good tracks, but the basic lack of skills regarding levels and just all around mixing was cringe worthy. Stop talking, start practicing.

| Originally posted by Lunar Phase 7 You really are a fucking spastic Jay. I said in most cases. I said there were still DJs who can deliver, but by enlarge they suck. In answer to your question among local DJs I have seen in the past 12-18 months are: Digweed, Pryda, Sasha, Zabiela (twice), Cokenfold, Matt Deary, Joris Voorn, Martin Buttrich, Jeremy Olander. Oh some truly shit hardcore DJs too, dreadful. The only one I found interesting was Olander. He was awesome. Now you'll no doubt say they are too big or too old or whatever. I still stand by my original statement 95% of times no DJ is needed. When you want to put on your 150 capacity venue into swing you can dust off your diva step records and people will come because they are your friends. But they don't care for your music. You are not reading the crowd, nor are you telling a story. In all honesty if you simply stuck your soundcloud on and fucked off to do lines of Ket no one would notice or care. Like I said everyone wins. |
maybe if you dug deeper you wouldn't be so uneducated.
