That's what happened to me. I listen to prog all the time now

Posted by SmellsExcellent on Sep-15-2002 19:32:

I love prog... For me its the fact that DJs can mix hella trax into one really, really smooth 'journey.' Damn i ust love it.

I also love the fact that some people here bitch about others who like prog. Now thats some bullshit... we have different opinions and tastes so that the world isnt so fucking bland. fuck, people!

.......

I like progressive sets, I can't stand most progressive tracks.

IMHO you can't get the "journey" feeling of progressive except when it's mixed. And without that, it is most certainly boring.

Arbiter

I would say that I can enjoy single progressive tracks. I don't listen to a ton of livesets or compilations as I'm a bit focused on singles. I consider each song to be a journey, albeit a somewhat shorter one.

Posted by cheesenip on Sep-15-2002 21:52:

i listen to progressive for background music while im on the computer. didn't like "love in traffic" at first, but it's grown on me... i've been playing it a lot lately.

Posted by Dmatrox on Sep-15-2002 21:58:

yes i love progressive, i recently found James Zabeila's stuff and downloaded his EM, globaldjbroadcast. Hes a wicked progressive/breaks/electro typish style. I love it.

Steve Lawler, Darren Emerson, Cass, Quivver are pretty good too aside from those big name progs

by the way, this has got to be the 10th thread about progressive this year. for some reason 1 or 2 threads about prog pop up each month

How about a www.progressiveaddict.com???

Posted by Blake613 on Sep-15-2002 21:59:

I'm going crazy over: 01-timo_maas_-_in_the_mix_at_kontor-09-07-2002-xds

and... Essential_Mix_2002-09-08_-_Tim_Deluxe (Kinda on the house side though)

That would be great... I was thinking about that a week ago. I'm serious, it would bring a ton of new people with more knowledge of different genres to the site. Swamper already owns technoaddict.com (but hasn't done anything with it yet)... why not progaddict, breaksaddict, tribaladdict, etc etc...

The forums could be combined onto one board, with different sections for each type of music, but forums like the chillout room would remain universal.

It's just an idea, but I think it would work out really well and make finding different types of music easier.

Swammper! I command you to drop technoaddict.com and register progressiveaddict.com

Oh, and it costs moola to register domain names Michael.

I like this Idea.

Posted by netw3rkd on Sep-15-2002 23:44:

I seriously think it would be cool. Even if a site never comes up, a forum dedicated to progressive.

God damn, thats exactly right. I listened to soo much Tiesto, Corsten and Armin that its just got boring! Moved onto progressive trance/house, Deep house, breaks and even Drum'n'Bass and Hiphop. I haven't downloaded an uplifting trance set for ages apart from Armins set from MoS and Ferry's from Dance Valley. Uplifting trance has grown old to me, dont get me wrong.. i still like a good breakdown. But progressive trance seems to put together the best part of trance, and then the smoothness of progressive. Check out any of Max Grahams tracks/remixes and you'll find there's so much more emotion than any of Armin's/Tiesto's tracks!

[end rant]

Took the words right out of my mouth..Armin is getting old..his remixes...meh ..just a good climax added..breakdown etc...Tiesto...sets aren't to entertaining anymore. Trance is growing old on me now..yet progressive house, deep house, breaks, drum and bass, house, progressive trance are all growing on me and shall stay for quite some time. It's great! For all those who say it sucks and it's boring...well listening to the same tracks ploped into a set 48537459 times..or some more boring remixes by Armin are boring! I say we change the site to Progressive Addict.

Naaa... 15 bucks a year isn't the end of the world... compared to the cost of running your own server, its nothing.

Progressive is the evolution of trance. I consider it intelligent dance music, an intellectual journey. Whereas trance is just move your ass music. I love to see the progressive scene growing and well......progressing.

well, I wouldn't call trance simply "move your ass" music...but progressive is a lot more...intelligent (although I don't wanna use that word, its the best I can think of). Not only that, but mixing progressive is a lot harder, and more artistic than mixing trance. Those who listen to prog know what I'm talking about

I read in an interview with Chris Cowie i think it was.. the question was asked "What do you think are the most over-used words in 2001" and Chris Cowie responded "Intelligent, and Progressive" Any music can be intelligent, its up to the listeners ears and mind

You shouldn't have said that... those words have caused many flame wars in the past

But I'm going to offer my opinion...

(Before I start, I would like to add that I am not biased in any way and I like both trance and progressive).

First of all, I definately don't consider progressive more intelligent than trance... to me that adjective does not fit prog at all. Simple repeating sequences is, in fact, the opposite I think. Well, not really, because I think the way the songs are put together is quite brilliant, but I don't see too much of a comparison between that and melodies, harmonies, scales, chords.... music theory. But that doesn't mean prog isn't good... just different. Cheesy trance may be move your ass music, but what I consider as "real" trance is very intelligent.

And don't going into "this genre is harder to mix than that genre." Trance is extremely challenging when done right... the emphasis is still on building a set, just like with prog.

Jester i switched.......

i was into trance allot and i still love it BUT..........
then tiesto, armin, pvd, ferry, started playing the same tunes in all the sets every week as if they all shared the same records.......so i switched.......
