The sounds on the two records may work together, but you have to ask if the transition makes sense. My problem with your mixing here in general is you basically let the energy levels go down too often by mixing out in "easy" places rather than getting into the meat of tracks. I think the second half of the set was better because you keep the momentum up with more incisive transitions.

Totally understandable. It was simply an experiment that I tried out by using Direct me's element as a dj tool. I obviously won't do that again. There was an earlier breakdown part in the track where I could've cued up the The Forth remix. Technically, the kick drum part was actually a couple of minutes into the track because they had the singer do the intro.

Also: you shouldn't be using the faders to match levels on different tracks, you should be using the channel gain and the EQ. The volume levels on each channel should be peaking at the same height on the display. It's also important to learn your tracks so you know which ones have weak bass or muffled highs or whatever else needs EQing in line with the rest of the mix.

Lol cold as winter but yes I still have a lot to learn with the gains and eqing.

Don't get me wrong: I started out making classics mixes of '90s prog, and my mixing on those older sets was fucking atrocious. Nothing was in key, some of the beatmixing and phrasing was very shoddy, there wasn't much thought put into the purpose of transitions... It's a hard genre to mix, and when you're starting out you tend to just look for any way to fit two records together in a way that's relatively cohesive. Nobody really gave me technical feedback in those days, so it took me a long time to get a level of control over what I was doing. I'm just trying to help you out.

The Sasha mix of Direct Me is a very tough track to use properly. I used to try and mix it and struggle to know what to do - the intro and outro are far too long, really, it's very easy to kill the energy the track has. Although I heard Dave Seaman drop it at the Annexe at Cream and it destroys a dancefloor when used properly.

^word up.

I appreciate yall for taking the time to listen to it.

I finished listening to it 20 minutes were missing , my favorite section is the 10-40 minutes one. A lot of the tracks sound like acid trance to me, the difference between prog.house and trance is nearly non existant on this period lol...

This was a lot better than expected, seeing the reviews you expect something worse, mixing might not be perfect but i haven't seen a perfect mix yet. Well maybe a John Digweed set but they are usually boring because of this excesively long blends. Effective and no complaints here, above the average most of the time.

I'll surely listen to it again, choons here.

Can you re-upload, possibly to a perma link or something, Matt?

Posted by Sushipunk on Dec-16-2012 21:24:

Matt is suspended, and claims he won't be coming back to TA.
