We're mods simply because we want to help the community. We're not paid a single dime, nor do we expect to. We need to make some tough calls every now and then, and we even make mistakes from time to time. We could have a complex judicial system, with juries and appeals, but this is too informal a place for that, unfortunately.

Some of our actions will always be polemic, as every single system that involves judgements tends to be. In this case, we're talking about a user who has been suspended repeatedly (by different mods), reason why I didn't just warn him as I usually do. Besides, a suspension is pretty much just a slap on the wrist, and he'd be back in 2 weeks time (if not less).

As for the community rejecting newcomers, Jack, I've always fought against that. I've protected nearly everyone I saw being bullied, from Spacechica to Theresa. Trancer-X snapped precisely because I wouldn't do that. As a matter of fact, I suspect Matt was the first person I suspended this year, so I guess that's a very unfair thing to say.

So, in short, I'm not pretending I gave him the same treatment I'd have given anyone else. That's what I'd do to someone who should've known better, and it wasn't that harsh a punishment anyway.

But in honesty all he did was troll his Jesus swag while never really caring about staying on topic or caring about anything really that I ever seen in the CoR.

I remember once upon a time when I used to be suspended once a week and unsuspended the same day until neo finally flipped out over it

I'm not talking about you personally. I didn't know it was you who had specifically made the call. When you told Eddie "It's the least we could do" I assumed it had been a group decision by the mods. I'm just talking about how this community as a whole works, which I actually think is a good method. It's helped give this forum a distinctive texture which is often lacking from message boards. In general, 95% of offensive, insulting and confrontational shit around here gets ignored by the mods, because that's just TA. I was the one who pulled the trigger. The other mods have backed me up so far, but I used "we" rather than "I" because I tend to think as part of a group when I make calls as a moderator.

Matt, they tried to silence Jesus, too. Consider this a test. You reacted to this with such acrimony- is that what Jesus would have done? You're on the cross right now, my brother. Did Jesus want to lash out at the Romans or even Judas? No, he said "father, forgive them, for they know not what they do". Respect.

Honestly seems like a dumb reason to ban him. I've seen people troll with way worse on here and suffer no consequences. He may be a bit of bint, but he actually attempts to contribute which is more than can be said for the vast majority here.

If he'd started a separate thread, whether or not it was related to the topic he posted in, I'd have taken a different stance. I probably would have ignored it. Unfortunately, he didn't. Even though it is instructive as to why I am not a moderator in this forum, if I were one with banning privileges, I'd have banned him. Not a suspension - just an outright ban.

The fact is that I have tried to deal with it diplomatically, prior to this episode. Matt was just as dismissive about it, then. The fact that I've been party to pissing him off enough to start an alt account and post his objection to the way he's been treated brings me a great deal of satisfaction.

After some thinking I feel like this too, personally I would like to see others get soft banned or at least warned for the rude language they use sometimes.
