Born in Brazil. Brazilian

Sorry, I don't know why I go over this now. Marcus has already, many times over the years, lol.

Haha, we've been together for nearly a decade now, and we live together for a couple of years. I can't imagine being married being too different from just living together

Well if tv shows and decades old jokes are anything to go by, everything stays exactly the same after marriage except with less sex.

It was about bloody time anyway, you've been engaged since forever. Congrats

Posted by Moral Hazard on Dec-20-2012 11:53:

Congratulations Lira!

Posted by OrangestO on Dec-20-2012 13:17:

Only a woman would make a thread congratulating a guy on getting married.

Good luck, Lira.

And congrats

Being married, this makes me a total hypocrite.

Congrats!

She's a Portuguese-speaking, pão-de-queijo-devouring, forró-dancing Brazilian - if anything, she's been Brazilian for more time than I have, being a tad bit older. She can even pronounce my own name, much to the astonishment of all her ancestors. Her parents did come from the Japanese highlands, but not even the Japanese recognise her as one of her own (really).

As a matter of fact, I'm afraid the ceremony will be more Italian (as a tribute to mother wopland) than Japanese. No kimono, no sushi (sorry, Stu), no tentacle porn, but there'll be loads of ravioli, tarantella, and loud guests.

Promise me you'll wear Converse Chuck Taylor's. You can wear black she can wear white or maybe pink if she's feeling sassy.

I can't really promise that because... I always wear Adidas. Even bought a new pair for the occasion

(Except when I was a poor undergraduate, and had to wear Converses for a while because they're cheaper - if you did up the picture I posted in 2010, I'm not wearing chucks ).

Congratulations and as we say over here "Casă de piatră" (meaning: house of stone - for the marriage and house-hold to last)

Posted by Vernon Wanderer on Dec-20-2012 21:33:

Congrats Lira, sve najbolje! :))

Welcome to the dark side! congratulations!!

Posted by Lira on Dec-21-2012 04:57:

Thanks

Casa de pedra? I like it... although given the stamina and dedication necessary for any relationship to work, "carne de pedra" sounds more like it

yeah but was she born in brazil or japan?

Either way i just meant that she was probably second generation or born in japan as the last asians to enter south america i believe were the ones to cross the bering strait. (if we are talking more than at most 3-4 generations back).

Regardless! congrats man

Posted by Vivid Boy on Dec-21-2012 07:12:

the last asian to go to brazil was probably in the last day

She was born in a local hospital (well, not really so local, it's like she was born in Edmonton and then moved to your neck of woods later in life).

Actually, we've had a steady influx of immigrants from Japan for a century now, being the largest colony outside Japan. Most of my Japanese looking friends are the (great) grandchildren of immigrants, and they're as Japanese as I'm Portuguese/Italian/Dutch/English/German/Arab/Jewish/Native-Brazilian/African
