LETS STAY WAY FROM THE TERM PROG, AND ANY ELEMENTS IT MAY CONTAIN. WHAT A FILTHY FUCKING WORD.

Nah, neo trance was more hyper-melodic detroit techno style, something like this

As for the musical definition, I'm not shure. As Jack said, the track is somewhat of an oxymoron. It's got minimalistic arrangements and minimalistic sounds from that era but it's a very epic track at the same time.

As for minimal techno in general, it's a weird thing to define. One might argue that techno is minimalistic by design and thus the term minimal techno is redundant. I mean, if this track came out today I would probably call it just techno. It's more of a label because that's what it was called around the time it came out.

Emo starwars. Pretty sure I see young Anakin in there.

Magda can hold my cube any day.

I went to a concert for classical music on boxing day and saw Hawtin with his family. I'm pretty sure he wore 1500$ Rick Owens' sneakers. I was jealous.

Posted by MSZ on Jan-02-2013 23:03:

Why do they make the only woman hold the cube, what does it all mean? This shit is immensely deep. My mind is blown on so many levels.

I just like how unhappy most of them look to be taking that particular press photo. NOT RICHIE THOUGH. OH NOOOOO, HE IS CONJURING BEATS AND MACHINES.

TRUE VISIONARY.

VISIONS.

You're actually wrong on this one. Neo-trance is more like Dominik Eulberg, Max Cooper, Ryan Davis, Jesse Somfay, Ricardo Tobar, etc....basically the Traum sound.

Armin is the greatest DJ in the world when you are 15

Posted by Woony on Jan-02-2013 23:39:

I actually willingly bought it, along with a bunch of other trance related stuff I now have to hide somewhere deep in the closet.

Posted by Chimney on Jan-02-2013 23:39:

I thought this was neo-trance:

Posted by Woony on Jan-02-2013 23:55:

The new Marionette? not really, I just want another reason to post this track

Posted by Chimney on Jan-03-2013 00:03:

I love how Mark's thread derailed into Woony's secret Armin DVD collection.

Posted by Woony on Jan-03-2013 00:22:

Cosmic Gate is in the middle because it's the worst, even among that pile of crap. I think I thought it was shit even when I first bought it.

Posted by Rodri Santos on Jan-03-2013 00:22:

it's not something i'd dance to. I prefer more energetic tracks and this melodic techno is not very popular, there is a track in the style of the track that is very big i've heard it played in several sets. Cirez D - Glow this works but bassline is killer and has a very rough hi hats line, totally danceable.

This is more trippy i'd not play it on peaktime.
