You can get a quality hotel for a bargain if you do it like this, 150/night on the beach or around 100/night in downtown Miami (last year I got the Courtyard Marriott d.t. Miami for 95 a night, not the greatest property in the world but was nice enough and was convenient). It's obviously too late for this now, but something to think about in the coming years. And yeah, the whole European thing sounds fun and all, but as a Florida resident, why would I go through all of that hassle just to go to a music festival when I have Ultra in my backyard? The lineup is stellar, don't think there's much disputing that. Just stay away from the main stages and it'll be a good time. And there's a reason why there's so many Europeans in Miami during WMC -- it's because it's bad as fuck down there that week. People act like Miami ain't shit just because it's a domestic locale, talk about taking it for granted... |
we can argue about this vs that all day (i tend to technically agree with everything youre pointing out, earnyourkeep) but for me, the most important thing is being around my friends.
sure, i could go to nature one in europe with 2 random friends and it's a top festival. or i can lets say go to ultra with my closest 10-15 friends and even though i'd deal with some noobs, i'd have a much better time spending it with my best friends and enjoying the music we love together.

What's funny about this is all these mysitcal places such as Ibiza that everyone hypes up are even more overpriced than the shit we have here in Miami and NYC... Look it's a fun time, that's what any of this shit is all about in the end. Either way, you're spending a fuck-ton of money if you want to go to good parties. And the whole square thing, step out of it...please stop trying so hard on the internet... |

Some of the acts on this year's line-up are interesting. Snoop Dogg? Azelia Banks? the weeknd? I mean I like em, but I wouldn't be surprised if ultra was really trying to get those acts to get at them ticket sales. It would be weird to see UMF turn into Coachella lite (BTW, Coachella line-up is out).
Apples and oranges.
I don't live in Miami but only a couple hours away. That's the whole point I'm trying to make.
Sure Ibiza is one hell of an experience, I'm sure...but at what cost? 1200 for airfare, a shit-ton more for hotels, food, transportation, outdoor shit like boating, clubs, etc. I would guess, what? Close to 3 grand for one week of partying? And then having to convince a friend or two to go with you and spend that same kind of money. In a perfect world I'd go every year but not everyone can do that type of thing.
And honestly if I was flying to Europe, I'd rather see actual Europe, and maybe catch a show at a place like Watergate in Berlin, not just a bunch of superclubs on an isolated island. Ibiza would be fun, but doubt I'll ever go, better ways to spend that money...
And wow, so impressed that you're from NY...yay! Here's a sticker for you buddy.

well that escalated quickly.
You can have just as much fun at Ultra as you can at a European festival. The crowds are generally better in Europe but the crowd in the Carl cox tent is just as good IMO.
Ibiza is an entirely diff story, very expensive and has its pockets of cheese as well.
New things always seem the best so my suggestion is to spread the love around. If you've never been to Ultra you'll have a blast. The Megastructure is one of the best "venues" in the world.
This argument again? Sheesh.
Ayo...quick question. Is WMC/Miami Music week the week between both weekends of UMF this year?

| Originally posted by Neonbeats It will be. I wish edcny and electric zoo supported the tech scene as much as Ultra this year, maybe they will...it seems things are shifting. |

| Originally posted by djnoonstar Ive never been to EDC but i think Electric Zoo does with Sunday School..the production may not be that massive but its still a dedicated tent all 3 days for the underground music. Though last year line up was somewhat weak compared to 2011 but i blame that on EDC contracts |
I like Ultra because I get to record little kids fucked up on drugs and post them on YouTube...IE - Tree Girl.
