I think they went belly up like a load of others. I had an SQ1 in about 1989, but I never even remotely looked into programming it lol.

You can get a pretty good free SQ80 emulator now though.

That link does nothing for me, just a blank screen.

I hope it's the real deal!

Oh yeah I just saw that.

Well that's probably the worst teaser I've ever heard. It's not that it's bad or anything, it just doesn't show much

Wanna see a facking pictarz!

Well, it sounds like much more than just subtractive synthesis. I wonder if they enhanced the FM features. Sounds like they've added reverb, too.

Agreed.

Want to see/hear more!

Yes, this looks quite interesting.

Synths with effects are so stupid

synths without fx are stupid in my opinion. THe overdrive / distortion and feedback abilities are what give them their character.

Haha, of course Mr. Happyhardcore.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Mar-30-2013 22:19:

Why do you keep calling me that. I dont get the joke.

The Roland chorus or Virus distortion/flanger are two examples that spring immediately to mind of FX that are integral to the character of a synth.

Yummy!

Posted by tehlord on Apr-08-2013 16:16:

I'm definitely sold.

I'm a little disappointed in the lack of vision in the upgrades they've made, but I wanted a NL2 anyway so this is a no brainer for me.

Doesn't seem like much on the surface, but the wavetables, FX, 2 arps, formant wavetables and FX, and two new filter types (ladder & 303) should really open this synth up to a huge range of sounds that we could never have dreamed of with earlier Leads. Yet, it still sounds like a Nord, so that's good.

Yeah I read the specs, but they had an opportunity to make something really different. It's more evolution than anything.

I'd like to have seen at least some kind of DAW integration, better polyphony and perhaps even some analogue pathway to make moar phat.

But still, it's on the list for sure.

I don't see Nord ever adding analogue to their synths. Every time a new Nord teaser comes out, everybody starts speculating that it's going to be analogue, and every time, they're wrong. If people would just keep their expectations grounded in reality and look at Clavia's record of releasing excellent VAs that are ubiquitous in electronic music, there'd be a lot less disappointment. Clearly, the NL4 is about evolution in the digital realm. Something that I find pretty refreshing, since I'm getting pretty sick of the attitude that anything not labeled "analogue" is somehow inferior. That said, I still have a giant boner for the P12 (digital sources with analogue pathway).

As for DAW integration, I didn't expect the NL4 to have it, but I am shocked that nobody else has looked at the Virus TI after all these years and said, yeah, we can do that (maybe even better or cheaper).

Posted by tehlord on Apr-08-2013 18:27:

If Arturia can make analogue (people want it you know!) and Korg can reintroduce it, I'm sure other companies could look at it as well.

Hybrids ftw
