Wow the shuttle bus idea sounds really good ... maybe even a licenced bus hehe jk ... you'd hafta really advertise the service tho to make sure the bus is packed enough to make it worth it ... maybe have someone ask ppl at the door if they'd use it and if the demand's there, ppl would pay $5-10 for the trips

This way it'll never be as packed as Guv Besides, I'm pretty sure it's much cheaper to rent space this big so far from downtown TO. This makes it cheaper for us as well !

i could not agree more .. one of the big reasons why that place isn't PACKED with ginos is cuz itz in the heart of Asian Toronto .. unfortunately that being a double edged sword since we get E'd out 60 year old Asian ladies instead.. uhhhgzz.. [shiver]..

Posted by AAzn_ScratcH on Sep-19-2002 22:16:

awww shieet
u just had to bring that up didn't u
freakin 50/60 year olds dancin to marco V
oh dear god...

Posted by mute79 on Sep-20-2002 01:10:

wow, that door policy looks VERY promising!!

Posted by itikia on Sep-21-2002 16:21:

It was a great start for Mark Oliver last night! VIVA was at capacity, once again, and the sound was louder than ever!

I took some video footage with my new Sony Mini DV; hopefully I'll post some of it for everyones viewing..

Mark Olivers first track ever dropped at VIVA:

Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar (Marco V remix), fitting don't you guys think??

Peace,

itikia

I want Viva to run Guverment to the ground.

Posted by DamnDirtyApe on Sep-22-2002 20:51:

I want Viva to move downtown, and find a clientel that isn't 99% Asian.

Hey dude, are you a racist? Just in case if you not aware, it is illegal in Canada....

Posted by Durafei on Sep-23-2002 14:46:

I don't think he meant it this way.

To me, the big downside of having 99% asians in a club is that there are usually not more than 10 white girls in there

aren't Asian women 2nd in demand next to white ones ... ?? j/k

anyhow, atleast with all the Asians you know you won't be seeing a lotta ginos there !

No way dude!! We have a club here that us asians can call our own for the longest time now and it's been awesome. Although I would like to see more of a mixed crowd since 99% asians there is a bit ridiculous too---maybe say 70% asians and 30% everybody else? LOL just joking.

But seriously tho, if it moved downtown it would turn into another GUVERNMENT guaranteed with lots of ginos, so no thanks! Viva is in my own backyard and I definately want an alternative to Guv. That's why I'm not too thrilled to have Mark Oliver there as resident on Fridays. I really prefer the residents we have there like Peter Ivals and company, they are doing a awesome job!

tru that .. the nearest club to where i live USED to be Paparazzi.. and thank goodness for Viva i don't have to travel all the way downtown to hear good trance. and just cuz Viva is filled with a predominantly Asian clientel is doesn't give off bad vibes like many ppl think.. a lotta those Asians come out every weekend to support their Trance (and E habits) but bottom line is they come out ! and they support and aren't there to pick up like ginos..

I'm not saying that i want the place to stay 99% Asian forever.. i don't care what the makeup of the club is as long as the vibe is good and everyone is there to party. which is one of the reasons why i enjoy going to Systems. Anyways, I like the fact that the club is nearby my place and i don't have any problems giving some of you guys a lift from TTC accessible Toronto if you plan on reaching an event there..

Just wanted to thank everyone who made it out to Viva last week. I had a blast and am looking forward to my next visit!

Trancewave: don't worry, your favourite residents will still be playing as well. I spoke with Peter the Greek last night and he told me he is not leaving. He'll be taking some time off which was planned long before I accepted the offer to play at the club. The last thing I want to do is step on anyone's toes and I made this very clear to both the resident DJs and the promoters before appearing behind the decks.

Mark

wooohooo! Mark da man is in da house!!! That's good to hear Mark. I'm not trying to say that I'm not really excited to see you at Viva or anything, you've always been one of my favourite local djs and I've always been one of your supporters both for you and the GUV itself when so many people here were down on the club. Although now it's getting harder and harder as each week passes by to defend the GUV due to all their business practices.

I'm at Guv a lot and I see you just about every SAT but lately I haven't been to the GUV as much. What I liked about Viva was that it was a great alternative to the GUV that not a lot of people knew about and which played a lot of trance. I see you on Saturdays anyways so Viva was just rockin'. I'm glad to hear that some of the resident djs there are not leaving.
IF you visit Viva more you will see that the Viva crowd is strictly a trance crowd, no doubt about it. I've been to some house nights where it's completely empty .

So yeah, lots of people are really excited that you have a residency now at Viva now. Within the asian community, you already have a big following. Viva is an up and coming club that you would fit right in perfectly, just remember to play lots of good uplifting trance.

Oh yeah, welcome to Tranceaddict.

No worries. I have no intention of playing any house at Viva (maybe some reggae though). I have always played a variety of music over the 9 hours at Guvernment, but don't expect the same format at Viva. I try to play music which I feel suits the crowd and venue. I love the fact that people flock to Viva for trance and that's the way I'll keep it. Anyone who was there last Friday can confirm that I played trance from start to finish. If you ever hear me play anything but trance at Viva, feel free to egg me.

Mark

Mark, Welcome to TA

I think its great that you now have a residency at viva because under age people like myself can now have a chance to hear you behind the decks

Thats great to hear Mark! I hold you responsible for much of my trance addiction! **Remembers the early guv days, Limelight, Meow and Trance Oddessies!!!**

And hell if you actually did play some reggae in there I would be in HEAVEN!!!!!!

Posted by Bizz on Sep-26-2002 02:21:

wow...hehe, nice to see you post here Mark Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to see you at VIVA, but it's way too far for me , hopefully I'll get a ride up there sometime.

And personally, I prefer your music format at Guv, simply cuz I love the way you move from one genre to another, and warm up the crowd(especially when there's a guest DJ). Anywho...welcome to the TA forums I hope you enjoy your stay and come back here

Oh, and one question...lol, even though I doubt you will tell me since it was long ago, but I'm dying to know what this track is. You dropped it on June 15th when Armin van Buuren was here...the track starts off with like thunder and rain effects, for about a minute or so, and then moves on into a really nice groovey beat...hehe
