"Whenever I hear the term EDM I think of American 16-year-olds with glow-sticks and t-shirts with prints saying 'Let's RAGE'" - Eric Prydz

lol

The term itself doesnt bother me, more how its used ( usually in a boastful manner to show diverse tastes meanwhile the "EDM" they listen only stretches one-three genres ). I usually just say dance music ( Does the electronic really need to be there, how much dance music is made with live instrumentation/bands anymore ).

this is why i hate EDM....when i read shit like this

quote:
Music Fans the Genre Currently Known As EDM Began A While Ago. These 2 artists and their Producers Gave House Music a New Twist and Developed a Newer Sound Refer to as Electronic Dance. While it falls under the category of classic in this Event on 2.23.13 Both Artists are currently still moving Dance floors all over Europe and America. Tocas Miracle, you Make Me Feel, Castles in the Sky were Anthems then and NOW. This Event is like a Bridge Connecting from 2000 to 2013

I've relegated myself to calling it dance music. I refuse to call it EDM anymore.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand all this hate towards the acronym EDM. I mean who the fuck cares. I get the disdain towards what the scene has become, but the term "EDM" seems to me like a good description. It used to be "techno" meant everything... people would stop and question, and I would say, you know... the Mortal Kombat music.

Too me its a fad, something cool to throw around like you know what your talking about.

It's like saying you're into cars... but when you dig deeper to see what they know, you realize they are basically throwing it out there to sound like they know what they are talking about and don't really know shit.

I realize its not like this with everyone, but considering the current generations fascination with 'swag', 'yolo', and 'plur', I think this fits right in with them.

Plus EDM is so easy to market instead of saying trance, techno, drum 'n bass, progressive, etc, etc, etc.

Besides, people still call everything techno or ask why I still go to 'raves'. /facepalm

exactly and it will pass, like every other stupid fad... Let's just hope it happens sooner rather than later.

It's too marketable right now to pass as a fad.

I registered edmaddict.com 10 years ago just in case I ever wanted to switch names... but I never felt it was 'catchy' so I was surprised it has eventually caught on

Yes, I know EDM stands for Electronic Dance Music.

This is basically a new term for when everybody used to call it Techno.
Castles in the sky- Techno, Prodigy- Techno, Depeche Mode - Techno, etc etc.

I can't fucking stand it. Fucking Neon YOLO/SWAG movement.

/rant over.

I don't like how the term puts the real music that's been around for decades under the same blanket as all this commercial pop crossover stuff that's come up in recent years, but the term itself doesn't particularly bother me; it's apt. Calling everything techno was/is inaccurate, but it is all EDM.
