Yep, yerba matte. I still drink coffee & red bull but I'm trying to ween myself over to just the yerba.

Really? I get cold hands and feet easily. I thought maybe it was a gluten thing. Hadn't heard caffeine is relevant to it.

I get those too but I've been getting them since way before I started drinking coffee. So I won't jump to conclusions all too hastily if I were you.

Posted by WittyHandle on Mar-12-2013 07:10:

I'm not assuming that's it, just looking for any factors that could possibly contribute. Until last week I never knew it was a symptom of Celiac disease.

Posted by Dykes_on_Jay on Mar-12-2013 07:13:

I usually drink one coffee in the morning when I am working early (7 days a week for me now). I'll pop in to Starbucks after lunch for a quick pick me up. After work, if I don't feel like drinking beer (rarely lol) I will have a Coke Zero.

If I go out/play and get too smashed before working in the AM, I will have a Red Bull. Here it is the real deal from Thailand ( Krating Daeng), not the fake stuff from North America. It is intense, so I really try to avoid it. If you are about to work hungover on 3 hours sleep, it is a Godsend.

If I have a rare long morning, I will probably down 4 cups of coffee.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Mar-12-2013 07:15:

thai red bull fucking sucks. its just syrupy awfulness. need those bubbles!

Posted by Dykes_on_Jay on Mar-12-2013 07:16:

All Red Bull tastes like shit. Need the meth shakes to power through teaching house wives nothing.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Mar-12-2013 07:36:

yeah, i thought that initially. but i fucking love the fuck out of that shit now. not that thai stuff though. tastes like it was made by cheap hookers and suit salesmen.

I drink a ton of coffee... like offensive amounts of coffee. I don't believe I have a dependancy on caffine; however, as I have never experienced any discernable symptoms on days when I either go well into the day before my first coffee or I don't have any at all (granted, those days are very rare).

My dishwasher at work thought he was doing me a favour by adding shit to my coffee. And when he asked about milk or cream I was like "No, black, plain." But little did I know he'd already put a spoon of sugar in it, not stirred, and when I got about halfway through the coffee it was disgusting syrup at the bottom.

That's why he's the dishwasher and not the coffeeman

system j, your health isn't really a priority to me but stay away from energy drinks. I honestly can't think of anything you can put in your body that is as quite as toxic that they sell legally at a store. They really are that bad. You might as well just buy caffeine pills and drink water.

There was new stimulant that was being sold a few years ago. Less side effects , used by the military. A body building health nut was telling me about it. CAn't remember the name but it it is at least 6-7 years old and not restricted as far as I know. Just can't remember the name.

You can always sprinkle a little bit of adderall xr i your water, Still a million times less toxic tan those energy drinks.

I find tea is still your best bet. Green tea will give you enough caffeine that if you drink it while you work, you will get a boost but not so much that you crash after.

Stress in general taxes the adrenals and kidneys - heavy caffeine use falls into that category. I have a few clients who consume a lot of coffee and don't have this symptom, but they tend to be the exception and not the rule.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Mar-12-2013 13:14:

A lot of "energy drinks are poison" sentiment in this thread. Anyone got any reliable sources to back up this position?

I've actually gone four days now without any caffeine, aside from a small glass of Coke on Sunday afternoon. It is an effort though, simply because I feel so dog-tired in the morning and I know exactly what will perk me up.

I think the consensus is that you are just drinking alot of caffeine , how much , you might not now, and then the sugar. Going on those two ingredients alone, i think you will find enough nutritional information that this is not a long term solution. At least cut out the adulterants and take caffeine pills or drink coffee.

Your body is probably not going to buckle after a few of them but nobody has studied the long term effects. I would say it is the combination of all the ingredients especially as you get older and you are an old fuck.

Try to find something like David's Tea in the UK. It is tea but made for people that are not really tea drinkers as it is an acquired taste. You will be hooked on something that is actually healthy for you. I searched long and hard for anything bad about tea because i've been drinking it like water and I can't find a damn thing. Even black tea all day is actually good for you and won't dehydrate you.

There are teas out there with about 5 calories that are sweat , have a bit of caffeine and good for you. You can always add a bit of stevia if you want it sweater. ANd you won't crash. Drink it all day if you want.

Do this

Not this

10 calories and no sugar, vs. 275 calories and 55g of sugar.

As for caffeine:

quote:
Type of coffee, Size , **Caffeine**
Espresso, restaurant-style 1 oz. (30 mL) 40-75 mg
Generic brewed, 8 oz. (240 mL), 95-200 mg

quote:
Energy drink, Size, **Caffeine**
Red Bull, 8.4 oz (250 mL), 76-80 mg

Yo, adderall is the way to go. I got a script. I get way more energy and focus, and it's only $5 a month.

Posted by enydo on Mar-12-2013 17:16:

Adderall is not the way to go, you fucking idiot.

just the acidity of the liquid is enough to pretty much ruin your teeth and system j gets cavities rather easily unless i'm confusing him with someone else in that thread abut teeth. And then the 1000 mg of taurine. I mean sure, no studies say it is bad for you but why the fuck is there taurine in a beverage.

I would say go for it if you are young but past 30, it just doesn't seem like such a great idea when there are so many better things out there. Red bull tastes like shit. I really don't get why anyone in their right mind would drink it.

Adderall is probably a short term solution thing and is rather light on the liver and easily processed. Pretty sure dexadrine is still what they give airforce pilots for long missions. Tea or coffee is really the healthiest choice. Its been around long enough. You aren't going to grow a 3rd testicle.

Posted by srussell0018 on Mar-12-2013 17:59:

quote:
A 2003 study by the European Food Safety Authority found no adverse effects for up to 1,000 mg of taurine per kilogram of body weight per day.[16]

A review published in 2008 found no documented reports of negative or positive health effects associated with the amount of taurine used in energy drinks, concluding that "The amounts of guarana, taurine, and ginseng found in popular energy drinks are far below the amounts expected to deliver either therapeutic benefits or adverse effects".

Taurine is mainly derived from Bull bile, which may be the reason for the name, but it doesn't seem to have any adverse effects.

Another source says

quote:
Taurine was originally isolated from bull bile in 1827 (hence the name of the drink), but fortunately it is now made synthetically. Taurine's actual effects are wide-ranging - it is an inhibitory neurotransmitter (in some cases acting as a mild sedative), an age-defying antioxidant, and has the potential to steady irregular heartbeats.

Apparently Red Bull has an acidity of 3.26, making it less acidic than soda, lemonade, orange juice, etc.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Mar-12-2013 18:11:

Still acidic and not something you should be drinking regularly. The taurine as I mentioned is apparantly not harmful but why bother. I cant find a good reason for it being there. I think these drinks ae rather new and I would rather not be a guinea pig.

Are you in your 30s Looney4Clooney?

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Mar-12-2013 18:59:

I don't have any cavities or fillings at all and I'm 24.

Posted by WittyHandle on Mar-12-2013 19:01:

Original Red Bull > Carbonated Bull.

At least in terms of effect
