There's some kind of woodpecker that won't shut the fuck up at like 6am right outside my window.

same here, they fly back to canada or wherever during the winter, so thankfully they only shit down our beaches during the summer

Lots of seabirds as the shoreline covers the whole length of the state, but the variety is pretty impressive. As for noticing them, yeah there are always some around, but it's always the more mundane ones. Unless I'm camping or something. Lost of ducks in the warmer months, lots of pigeons, doves, woodpeckers, flycatchers, shrieks, ravens, swallows; that sort of thing as I live a bit far from the shore. I love hearing them in the morning, but I'm usually passed out at that time.

We used to get hundreds of those Canadian geese fly over and form an enormous floating armada on the big lake near where I grew up.

Remember that Owl we saw a few months ago in our backyard? It's a pity they only come out at night so we can see them in all their splendor.
We also get Cardinals, Bats and other colorful birds (don't know what they're called unfortunately)
One of the best feelings on Earth for me is seeing Hummingbirds. They're so adorable.

Many birds here in Holland. When I still lived with my parents I used to watch hoovering buzzards, often with some of those annoying crows around it:

Ducks, Canada Geese, Seagulls, Pigeons, Bald Eagles, and others. My friend can recognize like every bird we have here, but I've never invested the time in learning them / given a shit. The Bald Eagles are pretty cool, though. Make me feel free.

This nice colored little fellow is called the Kingfisher (IJsvogel in Dutch(=Icebird))
