Since you are in Europe, you should look for headphones that are inexpensive in Europe... the Sennheiser HD280 and HD25 should be good. Each are great at what they do, and both take two completely different approaches to creating a DJ headphone...

I have the MDRV7506, same thing as the V6...
I also have the MDR-V700DJ by Sony... To be honest, the 700DJ is better for djing. The 7506 cant go as loud, therefore, wouldnt be as good in a loud environment.
The MDR7506/V6 have great audio quality, that is why they are studio headphones, but when crancked very loud, they will get distorted but also crazy with the highs..
If you are out there in the UK, and you were thinking of getting the Sennheiser HD280 or HD25, then get the HD25.
Nothing against the HD280, but I've heard way to many mixed reviews on the HD280... and it's usually that its not loud enough.
The Senn HD25 do cost more, but trust me, its worth the money.
Be careful though, the HD25 has a cheaper model labled as the HD25SP... good sound, but the HD25SP does not go up as loud, so make sure you look for the HD25.
You prob can get the HD25 for about 133 pounds

*sigh* it's not that the 7506 can't go as loud... it is that your mixer is distorting... and the highs on the 7506 are a bit bright, yea... that is a specific, engineered feature. The HD280's dont have that feature of being bright in the highs...

Remember, with the v700dj's and when the mixer is cranked, the headphones aren't distorting (headphones rarely distort), the MIXER is, but when you listen to the v700dj's, they simply dont tell you that the mixer is distorting...

gluegun... good point..
Actually, talking about driving the MDRV700DJs.. Last night I was back at the pro audio store, picking up my mixer.
Anyhow, I saw the guy from the Pro Audio Section doing some work on some keyboards with the 700DJs on. He was telling some guys about the headphones, how good they were. I actually told him that they werent that good for pro audio use, but he told me the reason he liked them so much was because they were so easy to drive. They provided the most output by independent and portable devices.
Either way, I would go with the sennheiser HD25,,, to many complaints on the HD280,,, if not quality control something else.

Sennheiser HD-280 Pro's
Sony MDR-V700DJ's

And i'll just wait for you guys to rate the Pioneer HDJ-1000's before i get em

Posted by Dj Flesch on Sep-27-2002 23:24:

I have only used two headphones, Sony MDR-V700s and Senn 280 pros. I have to say, out of those two, I vastly liked Sony better. I was going to get a new pair of sony's until I saw the pic of the pioneer hdj1000s! I've got to look into those now I've always been happy with pionner for the last 10 years in my dj and home audio eq.

Posted by Gluegun on Sep-28-2002 00:53:

Flesch, you have gotta try the Senn HD25 then...

Anyway, whats wrong with the 280's? Your mixer cant drive them well enough??

Posted by Dj Flesch on Sep-28-2002 01:01:

we'll my djm-600 drove my sony's very well indead, so I doub't that is my mixer. The HD-280s distort at moderate to high volume levels, and I don't like it! Aside from the lack of sound quality, they look worse than a hairy beast on my head! hehe

Posted by Gluegun on Sep-28-2002 01:32:

Anything can drive the Sony's well -- they are some of the easiest to drive headphones on the planet. They dont show distortions even if, for some reason, your mixer DOES distort, cause they usually aren't detailed enough to. That's the only thing hte V700DJ's HAVE -- they are sooooo obscenely easy to drive, and they dont tell you if your mixer is distorting...

ANYTHING can drive the v700dj's... so yea, your mixer is probably distorting at the tough to drive load of the 280's..

It is the V700DJ's LACK of sound fidelity (in otherwords, their lack of truthfullness to tell you that your source sucks) that makes you think they have more 'quality'... when they don't, they are actually LOWER Fidelity than the 280 pro's. Remember, Hi Fi doesnt necessarily mean "It sounds good", but rather, "High Fidelity" means, "Is very truthful"...

Posted by Dj Flesch on Sep-28-2002 01:36:

Well, the mixer isn't the only input that I have plugged the headphones into to hear the distortion. My soundcard (SB extigy external) is a very good card and the specs of the soundcard outweight the specs of my headphones. Even if the problem is my mixer not being able to drive my senn's, then I rather buy another pair of $150 headphones than ditch my $1200 mixer ;p

What about add an amplifier to lighten the load on your mixer's headphone jack and provide external amplification of the headphones?

So the opamps in your mixer don't have to try so hard, and so it will go louder anyway...

Its a good idea, but no practical for Djing. You dont want to carry some additional piece, and not to mention the money involved.
Simply just get a headphone that will be easy to drive in any mixer.

As far as the HD280, Im really thinking that sennheiser is giving you what you pay for. To get a good djing headphone that will provide a good output, you will have to go about 100 bucks and above. So im talking about the typical top dj headphones... THe pioneer, technics, the sony 700dj,,,, and of course the sennheiser HD25.
Ive been able to listen to the pioneer ones recently at the audio store (not the brand new model), id think it would do fine for djing.

They will arrive in few days so I'll be using them

Sony MDR-V6

Sony MDR-V6
good for now.. i imagine they wouldn't be good for blocking out noise in a club or something. Also they are very loose and they slide off my head a lot.

Posted by Gluegun on Oct-02-2002 03:23:

V6, loose? Odd, i've never heard that description of them... too tight, yes, but loose??

Try bending them a bit...
