I do understand that argument, I just don't think it would actually happen. At least not currently. I find it more scary in the sense that as the government continues to do things like this, less and less people actually care, which makes out a very depressing future if things keep progressing this way.

Encroachment has been an issue for decades, but I don't think it's been significantly altered beyond the gestalt of public access to communication. All the same, if there is a constitutional violation of rights here, the NSA needs to be called out for it right fucking now, because calling them out is the only thing that balances the slippery slope into fascism. And they are being called out for it right here, right now, on TRANCEADDICT DOT COM.

Technology, information technology, in particular, is a huge part of all this, and I think that in general, if we want the technology and services we all seem to be drifting towards, we are going to be giving up privacy.

These companies are no better than the government in that regard. Why do you think all these social media services are "free"?

//yeah, I realize my grammar there was terrible. FUCK YOO

"This is nothing particularly new. This has been going on for seven years under the auspices of the (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) authority and every member of the United States Senate has been advised of this," said Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., the top Republican on the intelligence panel. "To my knowledge we have not had any citizen who has registered a complaint relative to the gathering of this information, and it is simply what we call 'meta data.'"

We haven't complained because we haven't really been aware of it.

until hippy faggots start producing evidence of all the systemic evils perpetrated on unassuming citizens because of these warrants, im gonna yawn and go back to sleep. doing data analysis and looking for patterns and links between datasets is not the same thing as The Man listening into your phone call.

This.

Boring news.

If they find intelligence suggesting or proving that someone is a terrorist, they could go back and look at the meta-data and see who else they were in contact with, to try to root out cells and stuff like that. I'm sure there are other uses, too, but that's the primary use I can think of, off the top of my head.

If you use Facebook or Google, they have more information on you than the NSA ever will.

7 years is a long time; where are all the examples of sinister misuse of said data?

Posted by Spacey Orange on Jun-07-2013 00:24:

so if a government agent goes into your home while you are asleep or away, doesn't take or move anything, just looks around, no harm is created? is that how you really feel?

how this for the harm. Peace of mind in the privacy of ones property or person. is that not enough?

edit

'sinister misuse of said data' does not need be proved to find violations of the rights guaranteed to Americans in the fourth amendment.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Jun-07-2013 00:38:

you are really dumb and your arguments are beneath me, lol.

Posted by Spacey Orange on Jun-07-2013 00:53:

that's it? empty suit, paper tiger. take your pick.

No, it just gets to a point where you realize there is no point in responding to some people.

pretty much. when you cant even get your analogy to work it really is a race to the bottom. and invariably Sergeant Shithead will then claim victory or that their arguments are just too amazing for you to deal with lol!

Posted by Spacey Orange on Jun-07-2013 01:04:

i'd rather not argue on the internet. i have better things to do.

i really don't care that much of any non-US citizen is apathetic about this topic. its not like they would have much influence here anyway.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Jun-07-2013 01:28:

im too busy and important to argue on the internet but Ill start threads! lol.

yeah, because US citizens that use TA are so much more influential haha.

you are a joke.

Despite the fact that I agreed with you when you and I had this discussion yesterday, I would like to redact what I said. The NSA has direct access to all of the data that FB/Google have on you.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/201...giants-nsa-data

Edit: I suppose that I should clarify, I'm not trying to allege that this is currently being misused. I get why it exists, and I'm all for doing what you can to monitor terrorist communications. However, the fact that it exists in such secrecy and that the program "allows the NSA ... to obtain targeted communications without having to request them from the service providers and without having to obtain individual court orders" is disturbing. I highly doubt that it is being misused in any sense of the word because I know quite a few people who would've already been detained at customs had the government been monitoring their Facebook posts, but the constitutionality of it is questionable. Not only that, and I hate to sound paranoid here because this isn't my usual train of thought, but this is a program that certainly has the potential to be misused in the event that citizens begin to "get out of hand" and really start to demand that the government stop doing shit like this.

my humble $0.02 for amurica...

if you dont like big brother feeling the need to act like your overprotective mother in the name of "national security" stop pissing in everyone's pool around the globe.... Maybe, just maybe, if your gov didn't act like such ignorant cocks when it comes to international affairs and other things such as... oh i dont know.... assassinating people in foreign lands with drones..... they may be less inclined to try and blow you up?

How is this news? Too busy rolling on pills to realize privacy doesn't exist?

Grow up, kids.
