This. The thinly veiled logical fallacies are plentiful as well.

L4C, can you please break down why it's so awesome.

sure although i think his earlier work was much more groundbreaking. He has been consistent but tracks up till that remix he did for Yoji really had no competition and a bunch of people trying to sound like him. I do like the track but it is only a small increment of stuff he has done up till that time. But ya, i don't mind. just give me day or 2.

I don't think he was the best producer to live. But he was damn good. He made tracks that well, if you were ever lucky enough to experience them live in the 2000s, you would understand. In my 15 years going to events, i've never seen people go so hard as they did for a few of his tracks.

Awful dj. Awful hair. Really nice guy. I mean really nice. there seems to be this separation between UK and the rest of europe and USA at the time. As soon as you crossed the pond, i mean everyone knew him. Trance was dead at the time, hard trance was the big thing, and he was the producer that started it. His label at the time was completely mismanaged , Overdose record, i mean it is a catalogue of classic tracks and they managed to go belly up. I think that had alot to do with this weird split.

I would say his masterpiece was O. Not my favourite but from a musical standpoint, i mean the track for the time was ridiculous. Still do this day, i mean there are so few producers where you can name the producer as he just had a unique sound that nobody ever managed to really copy. And that is pretty rare.

System J had a love for that UK hard dance and as shitty as that was, they all saw SCot Project as a god. Every single one of those producers. More of an insult to Zenker but i think it sort of shows that System J's hate is a little more complicated than the producer and his music.

Germans had been doing hard trance long before Scot Project ever made an impact.

1993, mofo.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jul-02-2013 02:11:

wouldn't call that hard trance. Obviously a spin off from hardcore and bigbeat. I mean if you were to talk about heavy metal, sure, it would not of happened if bill haily didn't make rock accessible to white people. But that is kinda a stretch that serves no purpose in this context.

And i wouldn't call that a track anyone remembers or cared about. Being the first to do something is kinda pointless if nobody knows about it or cared and you never influenced anyone.

LOL. This. shit. Let's all go to an arena in Holland and drop mad drugs.

You are aware that big beat didn't even exist by '93, right?

And you're saying that Scot Project, a hard trance guy, was not influenced by Komakino, one of the pioneering acts of hard German trance, from which nearly all of the hard dance scene grew from.

Gotcha.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jul-02-2013 05:39:

i think my main point was that everyone is influenced by others and you are basically just going back in time to some artist that nobody remembers. The term didn't exist or become relevant until scot project. If you want to play who done it first, i mean we have to start going back a hundred years because everyone has influences.

I thought Megara vs DJ Lee was pretty good Hard Trance back in my 2005-2007 days.

There was tons of hard trance in the early '90s, mostly made by Germans. Komakino was just one part of it. In fact, here's Scot Project jumping on the bandwagon for his first release. Click here to gain some knowledge on the subject.

Moving on from that, though, probably a significant crossover from the old guard to the new style (nu-NRG, really) was Commander Tom's Are Am Eye:

It has the familiar piano melodies that hard German trance loved to use, but brings in hoovers that NRG made their staple. Oh, and breakdowns.

It was released in 1995, by the way, was a huge tune for hard dance DJs, and still well before you claim Scot Project invented hard trance.

Posted by Lews on Jul-02-2013 08:19:

Woa, L4C doesn't know anything about what he's talking about? Shocking.

Posted by Sykonee on Jul-02-2013 08:25:

I would say Scot Project helped push the reinvention of hard trance for the new millennium, when a lot of it took on UK NRG tropes and Dutch schlock, but he certainly wasn't a pioneer of hard trance in general.

cosmic gate made fire wire, scot project only mixed it... still, i think cosmic gate, warp bros and jk walker were at the top for hard trance at the time.

and i think overdrive (O) is a belter of a tune... used to love the original mix with the ultra-cheesy uplifting melody, but later i converted to the arome mix with the punishing acid section replacing the 'chav' melody... ten times better than his original offering. total bad ass. more attitude, less fluff.

Maybe not the term, but the music itself did.

Ex. Lionrock - Packet of peace (the dust brothers remix)

No offense but they were kinda cheesy compared to Scot Project's legit melodies. I cant lie though - Human Nature was one of my favorite tracks as a teen.

None of them rivaled the success Scot Project had at his peak in 2004.

Nothing would entertain me more than watching you try and point out any logical fallacies of mine. The last time you did it was probably the fastest Internet capitulation I've ever seen.

I liked a few Scot Project tracks when I liked hard trance (IE: when I was 15)... Overdrive, Future Is Now, whichever one he did that ripped off Flight 643, and his remix of Meteor Seven's Universal Music. But his album came out in 2005 and the shtick had got really old by then, so an entire album full of silly spoken vocals and momentum crushing breakdowns was just too much. My "hatred" of him is more just mockery of your apparent belief that he invented Western civilisation as we know it, and the fact you still talk highly of his immensely silly music even though you're well into your 30s.

Posted by Titanium on Jul-02-2013 12:19:

I loved his melodies and breakowns. Those breakdowns for Overdrive and FM1 were the best stuff I've heard.

i thought cosmic gate made fire wire which was the sound scot project copied for the rest of his short career. also organ donors was earlier but those ended up as plain hard house, while scot project went hardstyle. yeah uk hard house had more influence than you would like to admit, even though it mostly sucked, which was earlier than scot project. i dont know where scot is from though, probably belgium which means he grew up with thunderdome, terrordome etc which is basically identical production techniques only faster and more stupid.

Tracks like that were definitely laying the groundwork, but it was labels like Wall Of Sound that took the concept and ran with it a couple years later, properly differentiating big beat from the regular breakbeat pantheon.

I bought this compilation in 1994:

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Hypn...on/master/46994

Alien Factory were pioneers of Hard Trance as Komakino as many others of that time. The biggest Hard Trance pioneer to me personally is Franky Jones by the way (The First Rebirth).
You really can't say this isn't Hard Trance almost 20 years later, I guess I don't have to explain how strange that sounds to me:

You make no sense. You call the original a belter and then you label it cheesy and fluffy. Then you dickride the flip side in the process by saying it's a lot better. Please be consistent.

Posted by Redd on Jul-03-2013 05:31:

cheesy does not equal bad, I think we've covered this about hundred and fifty four times the last ten years. his post isn't inconsistent at all.

the arome mix has just as much credence as the "original". it's still him. except with the freedom to make a more serious production, like most B sides are. with the A side pandering to the masses.
