Hahahahahahah...this is hilarious. So it's alright to pay $50-$100 to hear someone put in a 1.5 hour, prerecorded set on a USB stick and press "play", while pulling Jesus poses and flashing little heart signs to the crowd? You have got to be shitting me - this is what it's devolved into?

I'll be there enjoying myself.

Beats sitting at home picking my ass.

I can think of at least 20 fun things that fall between "sitting at home picking my ass" and "shelling out hard earned money to hear generic canned music".

They should be more honest with their branding, call it, "Long Weekend Cash Grab", or something like that.

My attendance to GUV wil depend on price and who I will be with.

And the issue is I do want to be with friends, it's hard to convince people not as knowledgeable or caring as much for this genre of music to step outside their boundaries and go see something they normally wouldn't.

Regardless, I'm still looking forward to it.

I'm totally in favour of the enthusiasm about an event. Tastes differ and even if I was in TO this lineup wouldn't grab me. But I agree that the Guy J boat party will be a winner. If you can't convince people to take gamble on new music then at the very least you should be able to talk them into Oz's party. Always a blast and the scenery can't be beat.

Hopefully

Did anyone expect anything different? Guv fell off 3-4 years ago and hasn't got back on since.

The amount of garbage they book is unbelievable, place turned into bubble gum top 40 shitclub. Coming from a background of booking so many great DJs in the past and being a staple in Toronto's dance music history I actually cannot wait for it to disappear..

Well said. I really miss the Spin Saturday nights with one big headliner and a MO open/close. I can't believe I'm saying that now since I really took it for granted 5 or so years back.

I shouldn't feel this old at 26 damn it .

That's actually the funniest part of this thread. Everyone around here expresses their displeasure/amusement for almost every long weekend lineup and it usually includes people posting old lineups to show how good it used to be. Don't get me wrong, these threads are still funny but so expected now

Guv may disappear but Ink and their bookings won't. You'll see the same lineups at Sound Academy when Guv shuts its doors I bet. As long as Ink still exists and these "djs" still draw then they'll still be booked in Toronto and we'll still bitch and moan

but EDM going mainstream is good...that is what everyone kept telling me....well look what it is turning into....back to the underground with you

Posted by Sentinal on Jul-27-2013 17:28:

If you think this is funny check out how excited these noobs are on a Facebook group called Toronto Rave Community. Just the name of the group makes me laugh.

And yes I would rather drink acid than spend $100 dollars to stand in a cramped sweatbox for 11 hours full of pushy assholes, watching a DJ? dance around an elevated box like a mindless retard to a prerecorded set that will be played in 20 different cities.

What is the difference between a prerecorded set by most, not all, but most DJ in a club and a podcast/radio show? One is free and the other costs a cover charge. The lasers and the sound system in a club as opposed to a stereo at home.

I'm really starting to show my age, but I agree, the sooner back to the underground the better, and THANK GOD for people in this city that still book legitimate artists or else I would hate dance music outright.

Posted by Big Boss on Jul-27-2013 19:08:

INK's move to "mainstream/cheese", although it isn't my cup of tea, I totally understand why they've done it.

INK has never cared about throwing a party. They care about making money. So if they can make money with commercial instead of underground, they'll do it. If you had their bills, you would do the same.

Why fight for the same tech/house artists that other promoters/clubs are bidding on? Who else is really doing commercial/cheese these days? It's a smart move on their part.

Posted by planetaryplayer on Jul-27-2013 19:49:

i havent been to guv for resident night in idk how many years but im sure its always reasonably full no matter who plays there. theres the people who go there just cuz its guv and the asians who arrive late. i think with a 'tech house' or 'techno' act the booking fee would be less than a steve angello anyway. it wouldnt be as packed but im sure they could always draw a crowd. what also puzzles me is why they cant even have a decent underground dj play on a friday or saturday and have cheese on the other.. or the off chance they have a good booking in the gallery manzone and strong get the mainroom.

Posted by jchung52 on Jul-27-2013 19:52:

Exactly OJ... Also from my experience in London, a lot of the earlier fans of the electro/dubstep/progressive wave now can't stand it and are discovering newer artists and are more interested in tech/deep etc. I see the bubble bursting in a couple years
