It is the DJS job to get the crowd into it, yes, correct, but the music is what does it. I know this is going to become another opinionated, heated thread b/c we all take comments to heart. I don't agree with a DJ jumping around like a fool. Lighting a lighter is classy. PVD is not the most annimated behind the decks, but who wrote the rule that physical activity by a DJ is standard. People liek Carl Cox and Danny Tenaglia know how to get a crowd involved...the fact of the matter is that when I saw Oakenfold doing laps around the decks and pointing to the crowd, his mixing was awful and his track selections were not of a world class DJ. Entertainers they are, but they are not rock stars that jump around stage...It is an art, and it is all about perfection. The only word that comes to mind is Stoic! PVD is stoic behind the decks, he is working and creating. He always interacts with the crowd in his own unique way...and his fans respeond to his subtle actions (i.e. winking at the crowd, claping his hands). Their Disc Jockey's not Lawn Jockey's

Actually, from what I know, Paul van Dyk pays absolutely no attention to the crowd, which is why his mixing is flawless. But I've never seen him or heard of him clapping his hands or anything of that nature.

If Oakenfold was doing a shit job of mixing and selecting songs, then he shouldn't be away from the decks. But if they can pull it off, I say let em'. Tiesto has done that sort of stuff with flawless mixing, so I say if you can get the crowd more involved without affecting the quality of the music or making the experience cheap, then go for it.

Honestly man, its a technique used to get the crowd pumped up. Oakenfold is a legend of trance, and will remain that way. The show is put on stage, not only behind the decks. How boring would someone be if they just had their head down the whole time and didn't do shit. I would have gone ballistic if oakenfold raised his hands in front of the tables. Oakenfold is the man, just sticking up for him. peace.

Yeah, that's right, a fence *DICK* I have no problem with any DJ making a spectical of him/her self for the crowd, but jesus, get the mix right if you are gonna do it!

Dude, your taking things way too seriously. Unfortunately, the internet makes humor perceptive and context based. It's not a big deal at all. It's not a situation at all. hmmmm i seem to remember lots of djs doing this when the night comes to an end... including PVD and Tiesto



as for armin, he does play lots of new stuff all the time, but his own productions are weak... they are all the same and a little corny. Oakie plays different stuff from everyone else (for the most part) and its stuff that is better... maybe other dj's should take some lessons from the master.

Oakenfold is on good way of getting the crown of trance back imho.
He is once again playing what he "should" be playing, trance and
trancelike tracks, not Bunkka-tracks and as someone else mentioned,
he is playing stuff that no one else is playing too.
Thats why its so fun to listen to his sets, not just the same
tunes over and over again.

Best DJ goes to Armin van Buuren tho, his mixing techniques is good
and he seems to have a good time AND he seems to be a damn nice
person too, always happy and seems to really care about the audience,
thats something i appreciate.

Best producer, L-Vee or James Holden I guess.

LOL, text isn't really a good medium for jokes. My last posts were meant as jokes, but they could easily be misunderstood.


PS: look at the "what do the pro's use" thread... you'll see that the same thing happened to me

Paul Oakenfold and PVd all the way !!
Both are at the top of their game. No question about it.
Others include Scott Bond and John '00' Fleming.
Sorry couldn't mention Armin, Gielen, Tiesto. They just haven't got their game these days.
