RA is the pitchfork media of the electronic world, surely you guys have realized this by now.

Posted by Woony on Dec-16-2013 14:52:

I feel like most complaints directed at Pitchfork or RA stem from the fact that people take them way too seriously. It's just a bunch of guys' opinion on music, nothing more, nothing less.

Eats Everything is actually a solid DJ, nothing against him.. what he plays is not really my style but I understand why he's getting the hype. MJC is straight trash. I don't think either of them are in the same galaxy as Dixon though.. Dixon's known for his long sets, his versatility. He had a gig here at Stereo in september and everyone who I respect as a house music fan said he absolutely crushed in a big room. I saw him 2 years ago at a private loft party, before he blew up and same story. His deep hypnotic groovers, man what a set. Like everyone says, he knows how to tell a story with his music. Technically he's sound.

Hi, I'm a white male and I'm going to go rub my dick all over the RA polls, bye.

Pitchfork is the Pitchfork of electronic music. They probably have considerably more influence on what sells and who gets attention than RA.

Oh, I'm not saying that they're as good as Dixon, but when you look at the extensive media coverage (which is surely "hype" if anything is) and presence on line-ups, they've been at least as ubiquitous as Dixon or Tale Of Us, probably moreso.

Posted by corjay9 on Dec-16-2013 18:43:

So if they're not as good as Dixon, what are we debating again? lol. Dixon is a DJ first, he does a remix here and there but I wouldn't call him a producer.

ToU have made some of the hottest productions of the year, and DJ-wise their sets are very similar to Dixon. They are actually good friends as well from what I hear.

What seperates Dixon and ToU from the pack is their labels. Innervisions and Life & Death have been without question the hottest labels of the year in terms of house music.

Sigh. Try going back through the thread.

Maybe last year, not this year. MJC is way over her hype hump, especially because so many people think she's a shitty dj. Mr. Dan Pearce is still on the rise, partially because he's indeed a great dj, but he hardly had a hit like 'Another Earth' or a Dixon edit under his name this year. I know it's a poll about dj'ing, but i'm sure we're all aware of what mindset most people have when they vote on these shits.

You're from Atlanta, home of trap. hush now.

I just got massive deja vu. This exchange has already happened, hasn't it?

Posted by enydo on Dec-17-2013 16:07:

I don't think so, lol. But I'm sure something similar has.

Posted by diabloargentino on Dec-17-2013 16:58:

i love T of U but they don't come close to dixon on a DJ level. the play similar tracks but the delivery is completely different.

dixon is, imo of course, in the top echelon of DJ class.. in the digweed area. the way he presents music is just unlike any other.

Posted by DJ Legs on Dec-17-2013 21:52:

Sweet! James is number 53 on the RA poll He didnt make it in the DJ Mag poll. That one must be garbage.

Posted by weymouth on Dec-17-2013 23:31:

Need more end of year lists guys! I need to add more music to spotify. Every year I catch up on new albums and music from that year during the holidays by upgrading my spotify and listening to the best albums of the year.

It's a stupid poll, but to say that the top 2 is not a pretty accurate reflection of the dance music hype machine, gruesome touring, and Ibiza hype this year is pretty ill-informed. If you're shocked at the top two spots you may be a tad out of touch.

Right. That should be the end of this discussion.

"tad out of touch"

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Posted by wotyzoid on Dec-18-2013 04:40:

I'm being misunderstood. I don't care. Who gives a shit who's in touch or not? This list to me is nothing but a commentary, though one with some credibility because of the process. I just find it hilarious that there's people gasping in shock, especially in the RA thread. It's the most obvious popularity contest. If you go out to party and talk to people, you know who's gonna top it.

Posted by Dykes_on_Jay on Dec-18-2013 07:13:

The lack of Tiesto makes this poll lose all credibility.

Posted by Dykes_on_Jay on Dec-18-2013 07:19:

Not one. ONE. Not even one of these cats even know a mock biblical gesture. Ou est le soleil?

I wasn't even talking about this discussion, I was talking about corjay and enydo.

But you couldn't resist showing your standard obnoxious wotyzoid colours, could you? Always so eager to put yourself across as "in touch" with the hype. And save me the self-qualifying "but who cares, right?" disclaimer, because it's the same old fucking shit from you. Never seen anyone so covertly desperate to prove his cred. Even the fucking Resident Advisor write-up for TOU opens with "Surprised? You're probably not the only one". They're surprised by the results of their own fucking poll, and yet you're sat there somewhere up on planet dipshit telling everyone they're out of touch. Clown.
