Jason, does your Canadian Health coverage extend when you're living or visiting another country? Can you purchase Health Ins in China for you and your wife/family while you're there? Will the twins be citizens of China because they are born there?

To answer your questions:

No. Once I leave Canada for 1 complete year, I actually lose my health coverage. It makes perfect sense though, as I am not paying taxes into it. I get it back after 6 months if I move back.

My wife has a basic health insurance from her job. Having a kid is pretty cheap here. It will probably cost me between 4 to 5 USD for the whole procedure, including the hospital stay. It's not so bad. It's the same price for 2, so i get one free. I don't have health insurance right now. I just pay when i need to see a doctor. A basic consultation is only 30 dollars.

As far as citizenship, I have to juggle that a bit. Canadians are allowed dual citizenship (I hold 2 myself), but the Chinese are not. My children have the right to Canadian citizenship as a birthright, regardless of where they are born. I can go to Hong Kong and have their passport within 1 month. They would have a Chinese passport too, which would be automatically voided the first time that their Canadian passport would be used. They would then need visas, like myself, to remain in China.

Basically they will use their Chinese passports until I decide it is time to take them to Canada for a more western education. They can go to school here by keeping their Chinese passports. I sort of want them to go to primary school here. The math they teach these kids at such a young age is miles beyond anything you can imagine. I also want them to have strong Chinese language skills.

According to many current estimates, by 2040 China will have gone from 8 workers to 1 retiree, to 2 workers to 1 retiree. They're going to need A LOT more children soon to make that at all manageable. For a comparison, the US currently has 10 workers to 2 retirees, and is worried about a rise to 10 workers to 3 retirees.

In regards to the men:women problem, I've seen some estimates that by 2020, China will have 35,000,000 more men than women.

Those two facts are fucking crazy.

The demographic problem in China is a very real one that will have negatiive consequences for this country(or will it? Over population is a probem that is very real, as well as being an issue that can hinder the ability of this country to experience further economic growth. Making parents pay for subsequent children only assures that those having them actually have the means to provide a good life for them. It is a different approach to birth control. While with faults, it isnt so bad. This country wants families. It just wants to make sure that those responsible can take care of those responsibilities because the government is completely incapable of being a welfare state due to the sheer number of its population. Life is a very real thing.

God forbid you try to cut benefits/welfare/government aid in the western world. It 's fucking simple , if you can't afford it , you can't have it.
