You make some great point. I deleted my facebook account about 3 years ago, it was just corny to me. I still check my Instagram for some cheap laughs here and there. Most the shit people post on facebook is exaggerated bullshit on how great their lives are and make it seem like they have "money to blow". It's mostly a front and it's a good outlet for people to boost their egos. People spend so much time in general glued to their computers, phones and other devices checking out what everyone else is doing. It's more productive to use that time to better your own personal life without having to update everything that's going on the internet. You don't need a hundred likes and "great job" comments to ensure you're successful.

Jenny, you are literally the only reason I came back to TA. Totes.

I believe in the good old adage that goes "It's not what you say, but how you say it". It's only failed me once on Facebook (though the guy apologised later on).

For example, just last week a good friend posted some "proof" the foreign media believes Brazil is an underdeveloped backwater and thinks exactly like the middle-class protesters from last year, as if there was a greater-than-Sochi backlash. It was an article by a big French magazine that was supposedly censored in Brazil (hah!) with many bullet points, such as "France opposed the ascension of Brazil to the Security Council in the UN because Labour is the most corrupt government in Brazilian history and the country is currently a joke", though the very opposite happened.

So, instead of calling him out, I pointed out the fact there are no signs of this magazine's existence on Google, and showed how the facts run counter to what he had posted.

So far, no harm done to our friendship (as far as I've seen).

Honestly I look down at countries who no metal in winter Olympics

Unsurprisingly, I've pissed a lot of friends-of-friends off on there.

But sometimes friends of friends are just asking to be abused with minimal repercussions . Especially the mac fanbois .

I think facebook has caused some people to be a lot more chilled out and less judgemental though. People just learn so much more about what everyone else is doing that it forces people to change their attitudes. Personally I can't really not use it as it's the primary place I talk to friends and it's how I find out about music parties.

Yeah, she is fluent in Chinglish. She just doesn't get the humour and/or cultural references. I explain shit to people all day, blocking her requires much less effort than having to teach when I'm off the clock.

I totally trolled some ignorant bigot in a CBC news thread I saw someone like on my news feed. I just can't help myself. I enjoy getting in fights lol. :/

Definitely the biggest advantage of FB, especially when you factor in the calendar so you can see which parties are coming up and when, and keeping in touch with clubbing mates in other cities.

Yeah that's why I hardly post any news articles anymore. I simply don't have the time nor will to respond to some of the shit ppl say or watch MY status get enveloped in a flame war the likes of which have not been seen for generations.

I have to do another FB cleanse too.

FB purging gives me the same satisfaction as wardrobe purging. I even go through my entire history on my wall and delete (my own) useless and/or negative posts, pointless pics, etc. I just hate the clutter, and it's a huge pain in the ass to dig through when I'm trying to look back and find a YouTube link or set I've posted. I basically treat my timeline like a bulletin board.

I have many issues with social media but if you use it for what it was meant, lulz, then its not too bad. unfortunately i know way too many people who think its a god given tool for social activism and the constantly flood my news feed with injustice this and injustice that. normally i ignore it but once in a while ill call them out and start WW3 on purpose.... call me self indulgent but honestly, how many causes can you possibly be that passionate about? like really? One friend in particular posted no less than 15 massive status updates regarding 15 different social justice issues in a single afternoon.... mind you, none of them that i particularly cared about.. but fuck, even king richard picked one crusade to go after at a time..... cant fight all the battles...

If you are into the whole hipster "i wanna stand for every goddamn social perceived injustice issue" movement, have at it, enjoy your drum circles and support groups and what have you, but dont get all hairy muffed over the fact that not everyone A: takes these things seriously on F Book and B: thinks that this issue is the biggest calamity since the holocaust. I made some witty comments on a particular post by a friend of mine regarding giant wooden cock vandalism of russian anti government activist as im sure everyone would agree that it is quite ironic that pro government fag hating types would retaliate against a kremlin critic by attaching a giant wooden cock to their car..... but oh no, that comment created a bigger shit storm than the time i changed my F Book profile picture to a photo of Darth Vader pointing at Leia with a caption of "You, get back to the kitchen and make me a sandwich" on international womens day..... (i didn't really help myself by responding to every angry female comment with different toppings i wanted on my sandwich, if they cant take a joke, fuck them)

I guess in general, i am just frustrated that people have become so deluded that they believe that everyone should like each photo of their lunch / new baby / stupid selfie or take everything and anything seriously that gets posted on social media. Then there is the whole other issue where people actually believe that anyone really cares what the hell they do with themselves every day. Congratulations on going to starbucks, reading half a book, doing your dishes and cuddling with your cat, you are clearly a beacon of light and hope for humanity......

I love you.

I just started WW3 on Saturday

after the USA beat the Russians in Hockey, I called out all fake US fans by telling em that when it comes time for the Olypmics you cheer for USA, but when it comes time to World Cup, you go cheer on some other country.

got a lot of shit from close friends and even family bout that...

but its true...International competition is International competition

That shit pisses me off to no end. Not that I have to worry about it that much, considering Canada never qualifies for the World Cup, but I can only imagine what it's like in the USA.

I don't mind if you're a native from Columbia or Ecuador, but those born in USA should be cheering on their country 1st...

last I checked, they pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States...they don't pledge allegiance to the flag of Italy or France

take that Forza Azzuri shit and shove it up your ass
