Originally posted by Woony I can see why you'd want to see May and Sven but I wouldn't recommend going to Watergate twice. It's generally a bit more posh than the other techno clubs in the city and more like a club you'd find in any other city (the location is quite cool though!). Not that you can't have a good party there but I think you'd get a more unique experience by going to something like Tresor. Tresor looks pretty decent on friday. About Blank is having their birthday party that weekend so that should be a pretty good alternative as well (although it might get pretty packed). Stattbad on saturday looks decent as well and if you like dub techno there's the Fluxion release party at Suicide Circus on friday. Klubnacht on sunday looks pretty sexy obviously, especially if Don Williams is playing.

Originally posted by Woony Pretty much. There was some EBM/acid house stuff in west Berlin pre-Tresor but that was pretty much the same group of people that later started Tresor. But Techno in Berlin (and arguably as a whole) really was formed at Tresor. Since they've re-opened there's a lot of people talking about how the new one is not the same and it's too tourist-y and all that jazz but I think the club has been getting a little too much flak, if it's a good night the basement is still quite the experience.
playing with these guys next month!
Seeing Dettmann tonight, will check back.

Originally posted by OrangestO Any other spots as far as sightseeing you could suggest that aren't covered ad nauseam? Finding some good weed there would be nice, too, but I think I can manage that on my own

Originally posted by Woony With just one weekend and a lot of partying I'd say it's best to stick to the usual big stuff since you're barely even going to get that done. If you're looking for some chilling, I recommend the Kreuzberg or the Tempelhofer Feld. Bergmannstrasse is quite nice as well and right around the corner. I definitely do recommend just hopping in the Ringbahn (goes around the city in a circle) and just taking a ride, I think it captures the vibe of the city best. If you're looking for some vinyl or CDs obviously take a trip to Hardwax or Spacehall (and if you're serious about record shopping, there's quite a bit more) Weed is pretty much going to find itself at all the tourist-y nightlife spots although I'm not a stoner so I can't really speak to it's quality
Bumping this because I'm gonna be in Berlin for the last weekend of May/first weekend of June. Just wondering if there's any good sites for club listings, or any particularly good events on that weekend at less well-known venues. RA lists about 400 clubs for Berlin and half of them don't seem to exist anymore, so fuck wading through that list.
I've looked at the obvious choices. Joey Beltram is playing at Tresor that weekend, and while I saw him a couple of months back and thought he was so fucking brilliant I'd kill to see him again in one of the world's most famous techno clubs, my poor girlfriend was beaten to a pulp by his hard-as-nails techno and doubtless won't allow a repeat. Watergate and Berghain look crap that weekend, and we're not fussed about queuing for hours and possibly getting turned away just to say we've "done Berghain" anyway. There is a Kompakt night in Panorama Bar on Friday and she loves Kompakt so we might try that - is it the same rigmarole to get into Panorama as Berghain?
You could have just pm'd that because who else is here is going to answer that
I'll have a look and shoot you something.
Cbeers. By the way, I'd recommend you see Beltram if you haven't before. That's my idea of good techno.
Yes Jack PBar and Berghain are in the same building so you'd still have to wait.
It's SO WORTH the wait though.

You should check out this club called Laboratory
Does it come with a personal recommendation?

Originally posted by SYSTEM-J I know they're in the same building but I wasn't sure if they act as different rooms of the same club, separate venues in the same building or something in between.

Originally posted by Woony Btw, @Adam - I've actually been in the Lab once at NYE where it's open for everyone. There's this small dancefloor in the middle of it that looks like a granny's livingroom turned torture centre and the rest looks like, well, a BDSM sex dungeon labyrinth. It smells thick and funny, like this weird indescrible mix between smoke, shit, lube, sweat, piss and cum. They play cheesy disco at ear deafining volume. There's hand sanitizer/lube? (I didn't try..) stations all over and used paper towels everyhwere on the floor. Sounds like something you'd enjoy, eh?
Great trip. Beautiful city. Awesome people.
I will be back VERY soon.
