Reaktor

My own ensemble which comprises parts of monark and razor.

Zebra
Harmor . Run this on a slave PC but it is monster

Omnisphere does both FM and granular, unless somehow this doesn't count?

Posted by PaULiN0 on May-07-2014 00:11:

Wouldn't that be modulation rather than having FM and Granny oscillators?

Posted by Teezdalien on May-07-2014 00:15:

Haven't used Omni, but no doubt it's a great synth for what it does but it's not the be-all-end-all. That's not a proper FM/PM implementation either from what I can see there, where are the operators/carriers? And it's a closed system, so if you're serious about getting into granular sampling or FM there are better choices.

Posted by djnitride on May-07-2014 00:39:

Ahh, ok. Well it still has granular synthesis even if its not open and modular

I find its granular synthesis functionality is fairly easy to use even for beginner.

It doesn't really count unless you consider a phase inverted oscillator summed with its self a subtractive synth and the amount feedback from the out of phase version a filter.

omnisphere has great bass sources and good mseg's. But it is a romper / subtractive hybrid. It's fine but considering the 10 years it has been put, it could be so much more.

Did someone tried, Adam Zsabo's JP6K? I have seen some cool videos on youtube.

It tries to emulate the old JP8000/JP8080, I will give it a try.

but so far my top 3 are

Sylenth
Zebra2
Massive (I hate the GUI and it's hard to program at least for me, but it sounds pretty amazing)

Posted by PaULiN0 on May-07-2014 20:53:

Thats nothin, Diva has the JP8000 supersaw digital oscillator.

Posted by beamrider on May-07-2014 20:56:

yep, but it's more money and CPU eater! hahaha, someone tried it?

Posted by PaULiN0 on May-07-2014 21:11:

I have, nuthing special, there's an a/b comparison with the jp on youtube somewhere

What are you talking about? Diva is one of the best analogue emulations on the market.

I guess, why do you use it? show me what you got.

My top 3:

Rob Papen Predator
Omnisphere
Minimoog

Gives me a good base of sounds to pick from.

An analog modelling synth of a digital synth.lol. The Jp like a lot of roland stuff sounds weird and kinda cheap which made it unique. Diva sounds great, better than a Jp but as a result, it sounds like eveythting else.

it really worth the money and CPU usage?

Posted by Mel David on May-08-2014 14:16:

Why don't you guys get a Microbrute? It's only about twice the cost of a good analog VST.

CPU no. Money, sure. All said and done, people searching for fat sounds from a fat synth can't mix. Zebra is a better purchase.

Zebra is a no brainer. It is about as good as it gets for a subtractive synth at the moment that covers a lot of ground.

Because Arturia are a bunch of arrogant cvnts with shoddy half baked products with zero support and deserve none of your monies.

Why so bitter?

Posted by Looney4Clooney on May-08-2014 17:17:

They do make rubbish. The microbrute is a terrible choices considering dsi stuff at the same price .

And yes, they are ****s. Anyone that charges you full price for another license because you have more than one computer when you can show your setup and not give you the benefit of th doubt deserves to be pirated.

One more reason I like Spectrasonics stuff... No multi computer license bullshit or iLok even though they are expensive up front.

I really like Strobe and Cypher is pretty good, too, but rarely use the others. Not that I don't like them, it's just that I hardly ever have a use for Amber that isn't better handled by another synth/sampler, and Fusor's workflow annoys me enough that isn't worth its CPU rape.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on May-09-2014 02:32:

They are kinda in the middle. Nothing exciting but solid. They sound good but it wouldn't kill them to add basic features to make that sound a good starting place. They need to stop this set lfo bullshit. Every envelope should be a mseg. Harmor is a good model every synth should start in terms of modulation.
